I will be going to see Coach Dean Ehlers be inducted into the Virgina Sports Hall of Fame tonight. I was fortunate to have played for him the one year he coached the men's basketball team. He was a real player's coach. During the one year he coached, 16-10, several school records were set that still stand today, 42 years later. Highest scoring team in school history ~ 87+ ppg; single game record ~ 146 pts; largest margin of victory ~ 96 pts; largest rebound margin; most rebounds single game.

Coach Ehlers was Athletic Director during the years that Ron Carrier was President. Athletic growth during that period is well documented. They began the football program in the fall of 1972, constructed BFS, Godwin Hall, Convo just to name a few. Coach Ehlers hired Lou Campanelli and Mike Fratello and Challace McMillan for football. All great hires.

Congratulations Coach. It is a richly deserved honor.

A very entertaining evening. Seven inductees including Dick Tarrant and Frankie Allen. It was neat because I played against Frankie. He was a senior at Roanoke and I was a sophomore at Madison. I had one of my best games against them scoring 26 and hitting 3 ABA 3 pointers. There was no 3 pt shot in college at that time. Coach Ehlers made a great speech and in his usual humble way gave most of the credit to others.
