RE: Possible change to bowl eligibility
“The policy is clear and understandable,” MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said in a statement about the Georgia Tech ruling. “What is lacking is the willingness to enforce NCAA policy and that is regrettable.”

Interesting that the MAC commissioner is singling out the NCAA for not enforcing the rules. If the NCAA did then EMU would be on probation for lack of ticket sales for football games.

I think all teams should be allowed in, that is about where we are at, why not make it official.

There is also a push from the conference commissioners for bowl eligibility to be at 7 games. The reporter mentioned that this was not just from the GO5 people.

I would also like to see it be at 7 wins to qualify for a bowl game. It would cut down on the bowls though so thats probably the biggest reason why it will never changed

There are only 4 bowls at most people care about, and usually the number is closer to 2 or perhaps 3. Last year it seemed like the only bowl games that generated any excitement were the national championship and Orange Bowl, the rest were just fillers for ESPN programming slots

And Fox was making a big stink this week to the Bowl people about ESPN having most of the games. Fox wants bowl games for FS1.

Was listening to Boers and Bernstein today and wow they painted a grim scenario. They said that a possible outcome of the head trauma and concussions might affect HS and college sports and not the pros. The main effect would be that HS and college sports would in essence become privatized to clubs. Im kind of torn because I do realize how dangerous football is but its hard to imagine life without football Saturdays! They were excited if it does indeed play out that way because of how obsessive people get about college and high school sports. So in essence maybe there will be a day when I welcome 40 bowls if the alternative is 0 bowls.

It has come close to happening in the MAC, and in theory, it could happen in any of the new larger conferences that has been split into two divisions. If one division is so weak its teams can only win against each other, you could have a team with an overall losing record in the championship game. Then, if that team wins the championship game, ..uh oh!

I don't know if a bowl has ever been cancelled because NCAA ran out of even elligible at-large teams.
