In the RFP for the playoff, there was a request not to have a bowl in the same city 7 days after and 7 days before the playoff game.

So the Big 12 and SEC are looking for a replacement for the Cotton and the SEC and ACC are looking for a replacement for the Peach.

Two more teams will get in the major bowls. The 2 team limit is off. BUT, it is going to be based on merit. Otherwise those two extra teams would overwhelmingly be SEC and B1G. Still, SEC probably replaces 1 of those 2 lost bowl slots. Other slot gets split between the other 4 conferences. Based on history, it would be Big 12 more than the others, but not that much more.

In the past, SEC would have had 1 title game team, 1 Sugar team, 1 Chick-fil-a team, and 1 Cotton team. Now like last year- they would have gotten 2 playoff teams, 1 Orange team, and 1 access or Sugar team.

I would settle for this, but the Poulan Weedeater Bowl, or the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl just sounds ridiculous...even if it's for a noble cause.

Exactly. I get why the Sponsor has to be a part of the official name, but I prefer Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl to Chick-Fil-A Bowl any day. Glad that the CFP/BCS might require such a switch.

Thanks for the info.

With the loss of those bowls to the new playoff, would that mean new bowls to supplement the bottom? They won't be huge moneymakers, but ESPN is the reason many of the minor bowls exist, so we could see it in a while. Where would they be? Indianapolis, St. Louis, and/or Little Rock seem logical, but depending on the situation restarting bowls in Seattle or Toronto could happen.

I don't see how they ever thought "the Chick-fil-A Bowl" sounded better than "the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl" - just like the FedEx Orange Bowl or whatever.

The bowl has a brand, and affiliating their corporate brand with the bowl brand is what they should be after.

Yup. Whenever I hear Fiesta Bowl, I immediately think of Tostitos. I still think of the Orange Bowl as the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl even though it's currently sponsored by Discover.

It may be different for more casual football fans. But the casual fan can't distinguish between the Chik-Fil-A bowl & the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The dominance of the corporate names makes one assume they're both lower tier bowls. "Real" bowls don't sell out.

This.

If it is officially called "Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl" people will just call it "the Peach Bowl." The bowl brand is (and always should be) stronger than the corporate brand attached to it.

Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl is a nice compromise though, hopefully we can see the Outback Tangerine Bowl, Capital One Citrus Bowl, and Meineke Car Care Texas Bowl, etc. coming up soon. Maaco is apparently dropping its sponsorship, so that ridiculous Maaco Bowl Las Vegas can be renamed.

It would be the Outback Hall of Fame Bowl and Capital One Tangerine Bowl. Florida Citrus sponsored the Tangerine Bowl and changed the name.

All in all, I'm glad Peach is back!

It already used to go by both names. So it wont be much of a change.

I hear you there. The real bowls don't (totally) sell out. Lol. And the goodwill that sponsors get from sponsoring the game last for years beyond their time sponsoring the game. Your examples of Tostitos and FedEx are PERFECT.
