I'm glad that this chapter is now closed and we can move forward. Looking forward to a brighter MBB program future.

RE: Brady signs 4 year extension
Good article posted in the DNR/JMU section. Coach says it is very fair contract, addresses being more engaged with students and helping to get bigger crowds. APR is mentioned, says one bad year has hurt JMJ but he has lived and learned and we should be on track. Excited about 5 recruits and future.

I like the years, but I think the dollars are a little light. JMU is not willing to escalate the program at this time and gave the lowest raise they could give following a NCAA bid.
I hope the administrators that Stabbed Brady in the back for over a year have learned a lesson.

RE: Brady signs 4 year extension
Back in March when I heard we had offered MB a three year deal with two years guaranteed and he wanted a five year contract I thought the simple solution would be to meet in the middle with a four year deal with a small buyout in the last year of the contract.

I am glad both parties took my advice. :-)

I am surprised MB's compensation is on the bottom half of the coaching pay scale compared to the remaining CAA coaches. I would have thought his salary would have been in the top half with the new deal.

Good for Matt, good for JMU, and good for the student athletes he has returning and coming in.

The trend line need to continue to improve. We just cannot have big drop offs to 10 or 15 win seasons. Also, it will be important to see if players progress, stay healthy, do not transfer, and remain eligible - having this happen will make Brady a much 'better' coach than if not.

Keep in mind that Brady may have actually negotiated his annual salary down from JMU's initial offer. We know that JMU wanted to go with a three-year contract, but Brady wanted four years. Say JMU offered $X per year for three years. When Brady requested four years, JMU may have agreed to 90% of $X per year for four years. The total value of the contract increases, but the cost per year to JMU decreases.

I'm just happy to have a basketball coach under contract again.

With the contract carrying the APR provision, I wonder if Brady and Co are still pursuing recruits for this class even though we no longer have room for them on our roster.

From my understanding transfers hurt our APR numbers

Anyone w/ a Rivals account know what Brady's $ incentives are in his new contract? Selig just tweeted that Brady's contract is online.

Seems rather cheap, but I wouldn't mind making over $300k in nowhere, VA. That's like making 2 million in DC.

RE: Brady signs 4 year extension
Coach doesn't really like to play golf, but based on some of the contract discussions I expect to see him at more Spring and Summer socials/fundraisers this year.
You must strike while the iron is hot and his presence alone can help sustain the momentum for current and future supporters and donors.
I am really curious to see the language of the contract to find out if it has anything like this ... "must attend X number of Duke Club events annually in locations to be determined by the JMU administration."
Sometimes you have to shake hands and kiss babies even if it isn't your style. Perhaps he can bring Coach Deane along with him to work the crowd.

don't think you need a rivals account to read the full deal.

RE: Brady signs 4 year extension
Not a fan of putting monetary bonuses to meeting APR goals. Just opens up the possibilities of academic fraud, which has taken down numerous college athletic programs over the years.

I don't think Brady is the kind of person who would do anything such as that, but I think it's good policy to just not have those kind of incentives in our coaches contracts.

Failure to meet apr guidelines should be grounds for dismissal if necessary, but that's all it should do. And we do have that clause also in the contract.
