UVa Cavalier Insider: Ratcliffe: GOR keeps ACC Tight
The Big 10 rumors concerning Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia Tech were by far the most annoying because they wouldn’t go away. UVa athletic director Craig Littlepage made a strong statement some time ago that the Cavaliers were staying put, yet the skeptics kept squawking about the Big 10’s money, the Big 10’s TV network, the Big 10’s spread to the east.

Well, not everyone was as desperate as was Maryland.

“Having to respond to multiple unfounded rumors over the past 12 to 18 months was a distraction,” Littlepage said Monday night. “There was no credibility or attribution to these rumors but they persisted. This should end future speculation. UVa has been committed to the ACC from the beginning of the national moves a new years ago and I see the assignment of rights as a good thing for the conference.”

"Littlepage also looks forward to not having to answer any more stupid questions about Virginia going to the Big 10.

Can I get an Amen?"

..but I'm sure for arkstfan, that won't be good enough to deter his current UVA/GT theory.

think we'll have about a 10 year really quiet period, but starting in about 2023 or 2024, things will start popping really quickly.

I think 1 major advantage the ACC has over the Big 12 is the end of their GOR is 2 years after the Big 12's. Also same can be said for the TV deal, as we saw with the ACC, going first is not good by any stretch of the imagination.

It also still has the 50 million exit fee on top of the GOR. If Maryland ends up owing all of that then the ACC is even more solid, probably beyond the GOR too.

I really think it's HIGHLY unlikely the exit fee would stand up in court- it would be viewed by any logical court as extremely penal. ACC will be lucky to get a cent more than the 20 million fee that was in place last year.

That's not what we're hearing from ACC insiders...but hey, they also said no team was leaving the conference and we all saw how that turned out...
