I think St Francis was a 3 for 1. I have predicted that we will never make the trip there.

Who pays whom when we play there? Or, is their payment for that game our actual attendance? If we never play there, what do we owe them?

I am sure they don't pay us. My guess is that our playing there reduced the fee that we pay them for playing us at home. So instead of paying them 60K each game at JMU we pay them 45K and play a game at St. Francis.

JMU playing at St Francis is the equivalent of a BCS team playing a 1AA team on the road.

Our administration can not be that incompetant.

An opportunity to save money has never been passed up by JMU. This includes a home game at St. Francis when it means that JMU does not have to pay as much for playing the Franks at home. Never mind the pride. JMU saved some coin.

What about a BCS team playing a 1AA team at a neutral site? Like that would ever happen.

All joking aside though, what was our most exciting home OOC since App State?
2009: VMI
2010: Morhead State, Liberty
2011: CCSU
2012: St. Francis, Alcorn State
2013: St. Francis, CCSU

How can we really expect people to get excited about that? Even culture rich BCS schools wouldn't sell out those games.

We can't figure out how to outbid Directional Kentucky - which averaged something like 2000 people (if that) - for a playoff bid, and you actually have faith in our leadership to successfully buy out return football games? Please pass the Kool-Aid!

Actually 6,570.
Really odd that they had 3 home games 9-11k, 3 at 3300-6,100, and then the playoff game at 2400.

Very weird to see a highest attended game about 4.5x the lowest attended game.

No JMU wouldn't, because JMU can mae several hundredk on a home game. JMU could:
-pay SFU whatever the contract stipulates to buyout the game (which is probably more than SFU would make at a home game)
-pay SFU an additional chunk of $ to play the game @ JMU (again more than SFU would make at a home game)
-pay the cost of running a home game at JMU,

Both schools would still end up with more coin than playing the game at SFU.

I agree with BSKB. The game @ SSFU ain't gonna happen. If JMU has announced a move up by summer 2014 then its definitely a buyout, and even if JMU hasn't, it will highly likely be a buyout.

Uhhh, yea. Guess I kinda blocked that out as a whole.

I guess Liberty (?). That is pretty bad. ick.

I thought we later learned that JMU's bid for the home playoff game would have been enough.. but it was actually Their conference (OVC i think it was) that opened up their wallet to come up with a large bid for the game.

Jeff Bourne was hired in 1999. Here are the rest of the home OOC games since then.

2007 - VMI, Coastal Carolina
2006 - Bloomsburg
2005 - Lockhaven, Delaware State
2004 - Lockhaven, VMI
2003 - Liberty, Charleston Southern
2002 - Hampton, Florida Atlantic

I believe you are correct in that the OVC did bolster EKUs' bid.

That said, why do we botch playoff bids when our peers do not? Why do they know what it takes to absolutely secure a bid yet we fail?
Seems like an institutional mentality and we know where those fingers point back to.

The 2008 playoffs were given to JMU by virtue of our #1 seed. Guaranteed home field advantage, so JB didn't have to bid.

I don't get it. All schools play softies at home. Guaranteed wins. Alabama played GA State. Michigan played Appalachian, West VA played us. It is a tradition. Easy games to get the kinks worked out, pad the stats and make money. There are plenty of conference games for excitement. Having the occasional tough OOC opponent is good, but not a steady diet. The key is being in a good conference that guarantees plenty of good games.
