UH run-ruled. Way to go Owls!

Good bounce back from the Friday game. Nice to have a blow-out going into 9 day layoff.

AND...Memphis holds on and defeats USM 2-1 to salvage a game in their series. We are one game back of USM and hold the tiebreaker with 9 conference games left in the regular season.

I hereby re-dub Big John as "Iron John." Complete game for Simms after pitching on Friday, shutting down the Coogs for all but one run. Great, great job.

RE: Rice at UH (Sunday Game)
Gotta be proud of the guys for bouncing back after the tough loss on Friday night to take the weekend series on the road and retain the Silver Glove for yet another season....and to do so with the academic pressures/deadlines/Finals swirling around them. Well done! 04-cheers

Nice to see the bats bust out, though we continue to struggle any time we see a left-handed pitcher. HUGE series win heading into Finals week and the 10-day break.

Game Ball #1: Leon Byrd (2-4, double, sac fly, 2 runs scored, RBI) for igniting our early scoring in both the first and third innings.

Game Ball #2: Michael Ratterree (2-3, HR#5, BB, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs) who continues his hot streak and clutch hitting-- driving in our first run with an RBI single, and hitting his 4th HR in the last 5 games to pretty much wrap things up in a bow in the 7th inning.

Game Ball #3: John Simms (W, 5-3, 6.0 IP, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 2 Ks)-- not a dominant outing by any means, but efficient, and he pounded the strikezone once we got the big lead in the 3rd inning.

An impressive victory and road series win should allow the team to feel good heading into the break-- and deservedly so. Still have a lot of work to do if we hope to catch red-hot USM (meaning we'll need to sweep at least two of our final 3 conference series), but we're well positioned for our historical stretch run. Let's ace those exams, get a couple good practices in, and come back a week from Wednesday against Lamar, refreshed, energized and focused exclusively on playing the best baseball we've played all year. Go Owls!

and from Austin: Aaron Fitt tweets, "Texas has now lost each of its first 5 Big 12 series, as West Virginia takes rubber game 6-3 in 10 innings. WVU is 6-6 in Big 12; UT is 5-10"

Rice at UH (Sunday Game)
From Friday's Chronicle: "I honestly think it helps having a young team because nobody really has it in their mind, 'Oh this is the way it's supposed to be … Rice is supposed to beat us,'  " said UH third baseman Jonathan Davis. Well, Mr. Davis, now you know. This IS how it's supposed to be.

As a point of color, on the post-game radio show JP asked Keenan Cook about his upcoming schoolwork with the break coming, and Keenan replied that he's got a 10-page paper due tomorrow night (and that he'd better get started).

In related news, the UH shortstop overheard the interview and tried to sell Keenan 10 rolling papers. #academiccornerstone

Walt, with USM's loss today doesn't that mean we're just one game back? Also, they've got to go on the road two our of their last three series, I believe first to UAB and then to close out league play at UH. I will not comment on our remaining three series except to say two out of three are at home, and none of them are against the '27 New York Yankees. Looks like a "takin' care of business" situation to me.

Dangdest thing about this team....once you're just about ready to stick a fork in them, they come bouncing back Remember our "I like this team" conversation with some of the boys in the hotel lobby the night after we won our fourth game in Hawaii? I do, I like this team. They drive me crazy sometimes, but I like this team.
