Rendon to Make MLB Debut on Monday
According to MK, Zimmerman just placed on 15-day DL, and Anthony expected to be called up in time for Monday's game.

So would that make him the fastest Rice player to the majors? How long was Lance on the farm? Anybody remember? Wow. Congrats to Big Tony. If you liked Bryce Harper's stroke, get ready for one heckuva sweet swing, Beltway.

Tony beat him by a week! Didn't they both leave Rice and get drafted the same year-- in 2011?

Crazy. I guess Cingrani's curse on Cueto worked a little bit faster than Rendon's voodoo on Zimmerman.

And wiki says that Lance was way slower, spending almost 3 years in the minors.

Cingrani made a couple of appearances for the Reds last year.

Lance made his major league debut in July, 1999, about two years after he signed - give or take a few weeks. So Rendon will beat Berkman by a few months for sure. Now let's hope he has just as successful a major league career.

Aardsma made it to the big leagues the season after he was drafted, making his first appearance in the second game of the season.

Wild. You're right. Forgot about that. Has another Rice player been called up so quickly, even for spot work like Tony got? Aardsma? Niemann? Anyone? Man, remembering Tony's junior year here after transferring, I don't think ANYONE would've predicted that. Maybe the OG. Maybe Tony's parents. But I mean, wow, fastest Owl ever to the bigs?? Crazy.

This is awesome.

In less good news, Humber has given up 8 runs in the first inning, yikes.

Do all the "Tony"s here refer to Cingrani?

Anyway, Aardsma (pitched in game 2 of the season SF @ Hou in 2004 after signing in 2003) was faster than than even Cingrani (September call-up 2012 after signing 2011), but the fastest was... Eddie Dyer who debuted in 1922, but apparently played for Rice again in 1923.

BTW, here's a "complete" list of Rice players who made the MLB. It does not include anyone who debuted after Sept 1, 2012 (Cingrani was Sept 8, 2012).

Tony pitched last September for the Reds in relief. (edit - I didn't read the entire thread before I posted. - first time through for me).

Yikes! 8 runs on 8 hits and 1 BB and only 1 out. All the runs were earned. That won't do Phil's ERA any good.

Of course, the Astros bullpen isn't any better. 18-6 Cleveland going to B4.

In the lineup and hitting 6th, so he'll be getting his first AB in a few minutes.

He just recorded the first out in B1 for the Nats on a pop foul, reaching over the dugout railing - great grab! He will leadoff T2 for the Nats --F7 to deep left.

Takes an 0-1 pitch to left field for a moderately deep fly out.

He was tagged with an error on a tough throw from the SS in the 4th, trying to get a force out. No runs were scored subsequent to the error.
