Agree with 58-56. Birmingham or Go jump in a lake.

UAB does not need those two programs. If they want to play fine. We play in Birmingham. If not there are other (better) programs that will play us home and home.

The conversation is about more than Alabama and Auburn.

And I am not seeing us schedule home and homes against anyone bigger than mid majors like Creighton.

North Carolina? Rutgers? There's an SEC school yet to be announced, and rumor of another BC$ school as well.

Wouldn't be surprised if Rutgers got out of this game. With a new coach, the controversy, losing so many players, and moving to the Big 10 they will want easy games out of conference

North Carolina is a 2 for one isn't it? And Rutgers? Tell me you are kidding?

Surly I don't need to list the teams on UABs past schedules to you and furthermore I can list 200 better teams than Auburn. Btw we have signed an SEC team home and home and it Gould be announced in a couple months. They are also working on another power team for a home and home.

Btw I would rather play UNC a two for one than either UAT or Auburn home and home any way you slice it.

Again, the conversation 58-56 and I were having were about more than Alabama and Auburn.

Yes we have had some decent home and homes in the past, but for the most part, the home schedule has sucked since Gene retired. Hopefully, Haase can change that. All I am saying that we don't need to be hard nosed when negotiating a home and home.

And don't call me Shirley.

There may be 200 teams better than Auburn, but are there 200 teams that will be a bigger draw and a bigger news story than Auburn vs UAB in Auburn?

And I'm just saying we don't need to let lower-tier BCS programs take advantage of us. Mackin probably has no recourse but to take the check, but we shouldn't act like it's not a bad thing. It is a bad thing. UVA welched on a deal and harmed our program.

Yes. Auburn basketball is a disaster. We're better off playing Troy - bigger crowd, better RPI.

That statement is a damnation of Auburn, not an endorsement of Troy.

The home schedule is typically a disaster.

There would be a bigger crowd for Auburn than Troy. There would be more publicity as well.

The home schedule is not a disaster as long as UAB is playing.

Says you and the 4000 other fans who show up. But what about the rest of the city?

We just have to be careful and not let UAB pride get in the way of UAB growth

It won't. I simply said if we play UAT and Auburn it need in Birmingham. Last check Auburn wanted us to go down there 6 or 7 straight times before they ever come to Birmingham again. That is unacceptable. UAT refuses to play us and if they dd they would demand it be in atuscaloosa and that is also unacceptable.

I don't think we have to worry about playing either one.

Btw Band dad is correct about the future schedule.

Part of why I'm so grumpy about starting a Home and Home here bleeds over from football, where we have repeatedly made deals, visited their place as the designated lamb to the slaughter, then had the return game bought out from under us. This is a basketball thread, but we've been screwed on it often enough that it is becoming a bit reflexive for me.

I know that most of the time we won't be able to make the deal that way.

No, it's not all good: the game at Bartow has far more value to UAB than the game at Charlottesville has to UVA. The buyout will not reflect the loss in marketing, season ticket sales or what it will do for the program's profile. We need every high-profile game we can get to build the fanbase and season ticket base. UVA will have good teams come into their gym in-conference regardless of their dealings with us.

The buyout is not an acceptable alternative; it turns a deal between equals into a buy game. And even in our Davis-induced crapulence UAB should not be playing buy games with the likes of UVA.

Second, it is underhanded dirty dealing on the part of UVA. They made a deal. They welched. Paying the buyout does not make it all good. They are untrustworthy business partners.

That may all be true, but UAB doesn't benefit from losing the chance at playing a home and home by making Bartow Arena being the first game a non-negotiable point. Like it or not, we need them more than they need us in terms of scheduling, so if they insist on the first home game, we need to agree to it and hope fore the best.

Well, at least I got to see UAB play at UVa

We probably need to start negotiations on the assumption that if we don't get the home game first, we won't get it.

Honor among thieves, indeed.

Exactly smaug. That said the SEC team we will play next season starts a home and home on the road but I agree with that. I hope they hold true and there is no buy out.
