In my view the cost does not outweigh the benefit.

Cost was 200k per year for both football and basketball - advertising for just 670.

Thanks. Do you know how much it cost for the previous stations they were on (WLBK, etc. I think)?

200K a year is a lot of dough, in any case. It's hard to say it's worth it, except for the hardcore fans that can't make it to the game.

How about Alumni and fans that live out of state? A 50,000 watt signal is important for being able to pick up the broadcasts outside of Illinois.

In the day time you couldn't hear anything from 670 past 4 hours away from Chicago.

In the night time sure no problem...how many night games did we have?...3 or 4 including the OB...how many of those night games were NOT on national TV...1. Why not spent our money to have that one home game on TV instead instead of a name radio station which doesn't really give us the reach that a TV could?

This summer I was at Rend Lake and I couldn't get the signal at all in the day time. Only could get some voices thru the static an hour or so after the sun had set. Coming back I could only start to pick it up around Effingham which is 3.5hr or 211 miles from down town.

WSBC would get the Huskies on 4 different stations at once (AM 820, FM 99.9, 92.7 & 92.5) 820 has a decent coverage radius, 92.7 is strong in the north burbs, 92.5 in the south burbs. They already broadcast NFL Sunday games so they know what drawing sports fans can do for the ratings of their other programming.
Well, your analysis is interesting but not entirely correct:

The three FM's are WCPT 92.7 in Arlington Hts.; WCPQ, 99.9 near Kankakee and WCPY, 92.5 whose xmtr is roughly 4 miles south of DeKalb on Rt 23. It does not serve the southern suburbs, 99.9 does. AM 820 is tied to 92.7 in Arlington Hts in terms of call letters.

Yes they all simulcast with the exception of AM 820 at times. AM 820m is also a daytimer - off the air at sundown. Both DeKalb and Kankakee have decent signals while Arlington Hts will serve just the northern suburbs.

There is a web site radio-locator.com that will give you a good look at area station, their power and coverage maps. I'm sure that IMG has their hands on this already.

Hope all of this helps.
Thanks for expounding on that. While AM820 & FM 92.5 92.7 & 99.9 will not replace WSCR; they cover all 6 NE IL metro counties with 99.9 also covering Kankakee and surrounding counties and 92.5 covering DeKalb, Ogle, and probably getting a good part of Winnebago County(not sure on that)
Choosing WCPT means that all Huskie football and most Huskie hoops (unless played on an NFL Sunday) should not be preempted as Huskie football was from Labor Day weekend through September because of the White Sox and Huskie hoops because of DePaul hoops. If the WS make the AL playoffs as they did in 05 & 08; that means at least 1 if not 2 more Huskie games not being broadcast.

AM 820 does offer some advantages over WSCR but it really is the best of a bad situation. WIND AM 560 5000 watt signal covers metro chicago pretty well but not sure how well it penetrates to DeKalb, Rockford or Kankakee. No pre emption of Huskie broadcasts due to competing sports properties at least at this time.

Of course ESPN AM 1000 would be the ultimate destination as they offer a 50K watt signal and their only other local sports properties are the Bulls who don't start till halloween and UIC hoops which doesn't start till the 2nd weekend of November. Being broadcast on a sport talk station means the Huskies will get some free publicity because the the hosts will likely talk more about a team whose content is being broadcast by the station.

I am hoping we can work out some sort of deal with them.

The internet makes the wattage completely insignificant.

RE: Illini on the Score for FB and BB
Let me lend an anecdote.

The Twins just moved to an FM station that plays music up until just a few moments before a 10 min pre-game. As soon as the game is over, it goes back to music. IT SUCKS!

I want to turn the game on the sports station, have the pre-game on, listen to the game, and listen to the post-game. But no! Now to listen to a Twins game I have to know what station has the pre-game, what station and what time the game comes on, and then change to the post game on another station.

I miss the continuity. I miss the start of the game sometimes because the pre-game is on a competitor station and they don't say "Hey switch over to the other station to listen to the game." If you are random fan, you probably don't do all this.....

And that's why it is important to be on a station that Pimps the Huskies pre-during-post game.

Is this a First World, Educated Man Problem? Yes, it is. But it sucks when you are running around getting ready for something, or working in the yard, or traveling.

RE: Illini on the Score for FB and BB
This is the way I look at it...if WSCR actually was committed to covering the Huskies, then it could possibly been have worth the expense. The way it played out, it was not worth the expense. In theory it turned out that as long as there was no Depaul basketball, White Sox weekly show, white sox pre-game show, white sox post-game show, white sox live baseball, then the NIU game was broadcast. Not worth it.

IFYP is a new one on me.

For the longest time I kept seeing SMH and wanted to figure it out without looking it up. I was stubborn that I was going to figure it out. It had to be something obvious. I kept thinking the S was for Suck for some reason. Well I finally gave in and looked it up....duh!

I didn't know that one either. Though I don't consider myself a dinosaur. Maybe an early hominid.

Yup looked that one up also.

I was a year or two past the text craze.

Its strange how I can relate to a person 15 years older than myself more so than someone 5 years younger.
