Nobody (not literally) here thought Pat Schiller was all-world when he was at NIU. I actually defended him his Senior year at NIU. I thought he was decent against the run and poor against the pass. Might have been better if he didn't have a freshman playing next to him and Delegal his senior year. I would imagine everyone here is happy he's doing well with his career. I don't get the big deal.

RE: spring game thoughts
There's plenty of differences between what you need to succeed at the NFL and college levels. Getting in the NFL does not mean you were retroactively a great college player, and it's not insulting to Schiller to suggest he wasn't an all-world college player. Lastly, it doesn't mean you don't believe he doesn't have a chance to be good in the NFL either.

If you could just point out great college players and know they'd be great NFL players, the draft wouldn't be such a crap shoot. I thought Schiller was decent, probably better than 7 seems to think, but performance wise, it wasn't like he stood out by a ton among the rest of the linebacker's we have had come through here.

Didnt you tell people he wasnt good because people thought because he was a white linebacker at NIU that he was Duffy?

I'll say it: I thought Schiller sucked. Had all the tools, but would truly impress me maybe once a game. Give me every player on last year's defense over him all day.

Uh, what? No. I hate when people compare every white WR to come to NIU to P.J. Fleck. That annoys me. I honestly didn't pay enough attention to LB play when i was 13-14 years old to remember Duffy playing that well.

I appreciate people coming out and admitting they agreed with my opinon of Schiller. I knew I wasn't alone. With that being said, I'm sure we can all agree we wish Schiller nothing but success in the NFL. I always root for him.

Schiller was no buster. He was good college football player we were better having him than NOT having him. He was a definite plus.

QBs. Feels good to know there is competition behind Lynch and we are not empty. I have not seen any of them, but as recruits felt Hare was the best. He can throw it.

Enough with Schiller "7" . He has done more to promote this University than you ever will. I wish him all the best in the pros.

Tyler Pitt was wearing #70 because his practice jersey is unwearable.

RE: spring game thoughts
Devonte Majors is still with the team as far as I know, he's just down the depth chart. We have a lot of good wideouts.

I have to weigh in on Pat Schiller and say that I thought he played well as a senior, just my two cents. In fact I posted during fall camp that year that I didn't think he could play middle linebacker but as the season wore on I publicly ate crow and posted that he had proven me wrong. Here were his stats from that year:

Tackles - lead the team with 115
Tackles for Loss - fourth on the team with 10
Sacks - 2
Pass Breakups - second on the team with 6
Passes Defended - tied for fourth on the team with 6
Quarterback Hurries - tied for third on the team with 2

Stats don't tell you everything but those are pretty good. He was a good player for us in my opinion, maybe not the best ever to lace 'em up, but still good.

Purdue's defensive coordinator was at Florida St last season. He probably will have a good idea how to defend the huskies. We need to win that game, but I am sure it will be a battle.

I didn't know that. Nice hire by Purdue.

Unfortunately for them, he can only bring the scheme to Purdue, and not some of the NFL caliber athletes we saw in the OB.

That's true, but Purdue has 9 starters back on defense. It should be a interesting game. Not to mention coach Hazell knows us a little

....glad to see our RS Dlineman are making some noise. I forgot about Ippolito, does anyone have any thoughts on how theses three look?

That part made me happy too. With Bass, Jones and Ippolito, it's good to see some of our 3-Star recruits performing at a level that warrants mention. Feel like the recruits we get most excited about never turn into what we expect. Would be nice to do away with that trend.

Schiller got used and abused in that Kansas game (the heartbreaking loss two years ago) along with the entire defense. Then the CMU game (grrrr). I wasn't very happy with him or with the coaching staff. They obviously got things straightened out and we can all live happily ever after.

Off the field (on twitter) he seems to be a class act. Looking forward to see what he can do.

Don't leave Perez Ford out of this conversation. I believe the best is yet to come from him.
