I don't think we have much of a choice. If we get a chance to play ND away, then we have to do as you say here. Though I like the idea of playing Marshall, it's more important for us to get the exposure in South Florida, so I say we're going to have to replace Marshall with a home game (unless they're willing to give up their home game with us and play us at PJCS).

Maybe Notre Dame would be willing to play at Indianapolis or Cincinnati. Game gets on NBC, split game earnings 50/50.

You probably got a 2-1 or 3-1 from Marshall. They're not going to be happy about giving up their home game. Maybe they could move it to a later year.

OK Notre Dame is now a 2014 away game. So who gets bought out FIU or Marshall, I bet Marshall. So who will be the TBA OOC home game?

Could you live with 5 home games for 1 year? I know VT can't but y'all have plenty of cash.

So how does this rotation work? Does this mean we get ND at home in 2015?

We don't know for sure yet. If every team gets to play ND every 3 years as Swofford announced, then you won't play them at home until 2017. Or ND could influence the ACC to allow them to play out their existing contracts in which case BC Pitt and Cuse will be playing them in the early years with only a couple of other ACC rotating. I'm hoping Swofford sticks to his word and every ACC school gets to play them once every 3 years.

Playing Marshall has no value for Louisville. FIU provides coverage for FL recruiting. Sorry but that's way it boils down to in game value. Now you could see FIU replaced by Florida, South Florida or Central Florida. 07-coffee3

We'll play you...our OOC scheduling has a ton of holes. Louisville/Cuse/Pitt should be doing some coorperative scheduling

I think Krux is right. We are almost certain to push back the FIU or Marshall away game (or possibly buy it out) in order to get a sixth home game. Personally, I'd rather ask to push the games back a year or two and still play them, but we'll have to see how it goes.

If this had come up this year, and we had to give up a home game and only have five, for one year it would have been doable. But with 18 months to go, maneuvering will create a 6th home game somehow.

I mean it's possible to buy out, but as much as Jurich hates when people do it to us, that is a last resort. We just try to move games and find a replacement opponent to fill the hole in your schedule. My guess, the game either gets move back a year, or is sweetened to a 2 for 1, with the game moved to PJCS for 2014, the home game moved back to 2015, and compensation to make it worthwhile.

RE: Cardinal fans, your 2014 football schedule
Here's an outside-the-box possibility:

Next year Notre Dame plays Syracuse on a neutral field (MetLife). Technically that is an ACC home game, IIRC. So here's the idea: what if we made that a Notre Dame "home game", thus freeing up one road game for the Irish? THEN they could come to Papa John's. The only thing is, the Syracuse game would move to NBC, but that would be balanced by ESPN getting the Louisville game, so ratings-wise it might be pretty similar.

What do you think? Better start schmoozing the Orange folks ASAP!

RE: Cardinal fans, your 2014 football schedule
As good as that sounds, looking forward, if it's true that Virginia Tech is scheduled to come to PJCS in 2014, I'd rather have it as a road game that year. The excitement of hosting FSU and Virginia Tech again, plus joining the ACC and even Notre Dame on the road, is more than enough for us. Then we would have Notre Dame playing at PJCS in 2017, a year that projects to have less marquee games on the home slate.

Obviously no one would turn down the suggestion you made, but I'm fine with that. Plus I think Syracuse was paid lots of money to move that home game, so making it a neutral site game would take away a "home" game for them, not only taking away money, but leaving a contractual hole in their schedule to fill.

You do realize it's already a neutral site game for Syracuse? From a ticket sales point of view, it can remain as-is - all I'm suggesting is to change the TV broadcast so that ND is free to play another away game...

RE: Cardinal fans, your 2014 football schedule
Syracuse was paid by Met Life to move a home game each year there. So it's not a neutral site game in the way Notre Dame does neutral site games where they split tickets and revenue. Leaving the ticket sale point of view as it is would be a big, big problem for Notre Dame. They lose money that way, or at least lose out on the gate, and having their fans there. Notre Dame would use up one of their "home" games, that they purposely play on a neutral field (just like Cuse is doing at MetLife) on a game they are not getting paid for. they would now have one less game to make a gate from. Essentially that would be like Virginia Tech giving up a home game for nothing. That is the issue.

I see where you are coming from now... I just assumed SU & ND were splitting the gate (silly me!)

ND controls the gate at the neutral site "home games" in the "Shamrock Series". They literally are "home games on the road".

ND controls the ticket sales, the game is televised on NBC, the school brings just about everyone to the game, they wear their home uniforms, the end zones and field are made to look like ND Stadium, etc...

For confirmation, read the Arizona State site for the details of their "Shamrock Series" game this year in Dallas.

It's not really a fan thing though. We need a trip to Florida for recruiting reasons. FSU will be in Louisville that year so FIU accomplishes that trip for us.
