I want to see Aggie Memorial Stadium razed to the ground, then turned into a manure recycling center for all the sh1t coming out of Las Cruces.

yeah, that is why it passed the vote, that is why every poll you linked on this board showed that more than 60% were in favor of the stadium. Time for you crazies to move on. Sorry, but you're in the minority, fit.

The city never voted to demolish city hall.

Why would 8 out of 9 mayoral candidates run a campaign that says that demolishing city hall was a bad idea.

Wouldn't they have a majority of el pasoans agianst them on that one issue if that was the case?

What do they know that we don't know?

Or...

Steve Ortega already has the votes of the people who are fine with the demolition of City Hall.

Therefore, if an opposing candidate wants a legit chance of winning the election, he almost has to sound off against the demolition of City Hall to get the vote of people who were against it.

Simple math. Simple politics.

As the name indicates, a landmark is an identifying item, place, or thing, that tells a person where they are. If a person is not from El Paso, the city building and the Asarco stack would not be readily identifiable to them.... In fact, they would ask, "Where the f--k am I?".

If you think ASARCO isn't a landmark then you must not be a native of El Paso . After many long trips, there was nothing more assuring than seeing the smoke stack. It let me know that I was almost home.

That is a good point. So then if Steve Ortega wins, is it fair to say that this is confirmation that the majority of the city agrees with the direction the city is taking?

What if he loses? Can we then make the assumption that people were generally not in favor of the demolition?

Of course not.

I am in favor of the ball club. I am okay with the demolition of City Hall. Yet I am not voting for Ortega.

What exact information do you need? Did you not see the mayoral debates?

What evidence do you have that I lied or that I am not a soccer coach?

In fact, our season just recently ended. Our team went 3-2.

First, you can start by listing the candidates that were against the city hall demolition.

Second, you tried to pass yourself off as a UIL coach by implying you coached "many UIL" sports. Although, I applaud your effort, and acknowledge your contribution to the city's youth, it is still in bad taste what you were attempting to imply.

All mayoral candidates besides Ortega have come out against the demolition of City Hall.

I'm sorry if you didn't understand what I meant when I said I was a coach.

which ones? or are we suppose to believe your polls that El Paso didn't want a team? You blab, blab, blab and blab, but never come out with anything, move on crazy

As far as sports go, I'm sure you didn't play, that is why you try to pass yourself off as a coach, hence the "I wouldn't have guessed" comment I made in the other thread.

I'm sorry if you don't know who is running for Mayor in El Paso. Just this morning I heard a campaign commercial talking speficially about how city hall was demolished without the public's consent.

As for playing sports............

Of course I plays sports. What kid didn't play sports?

It seems leeser and perez are the only ones still openly opposed to city hall going down, but that they will support the stadium. The others seem to have changed their tune and are on board. Gee, what a difference one debate made, I wonder why? Public opinion maybe?

And what do you know, perez who is the only one still opposed to the stadium being downtown, wants the new arena to be built in his neck of the woods. Lets not get into who he associated himself with.

Elections and politics are a dirty game. Leeser, who said he thought demolishing city hall and building a stadium was a waste of money, guess who some of his biggest campaign donors are? Yup, that's right, major (Rubin) property owners downtown

I haven't seen any new debates since the one on 7 extra where all the candidates were against the domolition of city hall.

Obviously, we must all support the new stadium. Whether we thought it was put in the right location or not, we should all go to some games. I know I will.

Gus Haddad was on KLAQ this morning and made some interesting comments about what he calls "Smart Growth". Apparently, there is this new thing in El Paso where developers want to create neighborhoods that are self sufficient in that you don't to leave your neighborhood to get most of the entertainment most people desire.

He said that the market should decide what goes where. A far cry from what is currently happening with government deciding where everything should go.

RE: What is your next demolition "wish-list item"
The candidates have come full circle, from what I've read and heard, Perez is the only candidate who doesn't want the stadium downtown.

There are 3 smart growth communities already in place. Of course, this being El Paso and some people being so closed minded and jealous, 2 of the communities have already met opposition. One being built across from an elementary school and the other is using farmland. The third community is now being criticized because of the types of buildings it will use to hold it's commercial area, the buildings were chosen so that the community could still meet the smart code.

There is a small fraction of El Pasoans who will complain about progress (in their own minds, they are the majority), no matter how or where progress comes from, I'm surprised Haddad didn't talk about that when he gave his opinion on "market should decide what goes where"
