Monsanto's high-fructose corn syrup is the final product.
Nobody up here eats much corn except hogs. Cornbread is unheard of.
Stay away from that genetically modified stuff and grow your own.

Hard to avoid. GM corn is in almost all processed foods--as sweeteners, binders, fillers, etc., and in meat as livestock food. That's what corn in the midwest is grown for, and it's almost all genetically modified, though sweet corn for humans is available for 6 weeks in late summer around here.
I grow many of my own vegetables in my backyard, and have planted my front yard into native prairie flowers and grasses, also planted milkweed for the monarch butterflies which Monsanto is killing off--the milkweed that is.
Nothing like being retired with time on my hands!

In my opinion, you are awesome! Monarchs are endangered, and Monsanto shares in that responsibility because they are reducing milkweed plants.
I try to avoid processed foods altogether, and eat almost no meat.
I am surprised, though, cornbread is not a traditional food in Iowa.

I flew directly through that mess all afternoon today. Left St. Louis at 3:50 just as the afternoon convection had begun....a swift piloting job landed us in 45 mins at Midway. Quick flight change and we took off from Midway and never saw sky or ground until we broke through 1,000 ft above the runway in LR. The plane never stopped dipping diving, side to side. Amazing job of piloting thru the storm, I pulled up weather radar as I was getting my car, and the back side of the squall line was literally about 10 miles past the airport.
Technology rocks!
That American jet a few years back tried to beat the storm landing in LR too. Did not turn out to be a wise decision.
Yeah, that thought never crossed my mind. [wink]

I can only imagine that it did. A month or so ago, I took a 6 AM flight from Indianapolis to Chicago. The weather was aweful - ice rain, etc. It was on American Eagle. We had to wait an hour until we got de-iced. What came to my mind?
Wikipedia -
While holding, the plane encountered freezing rain — a dangerous icing condition where supercooled droplets rapidly cause intense ice buildup. Soon after, they were cleared to descend to 8,000 ft (2,400 m). After this descent the pilots were ordered to make another hold. While in the holding pattern, a warning sound indicating an overspeed warning due to the extended flaps was heard in the cockpit. After the pilot took action by retracting the flaps, a strange noise was heard on the cockpit voice recorder, followed by an uncommanded roll excursion which disengaged the autopilot. Flight recorder data showed that the ATR subsequently went through at least one full roll with the crew able to regain control of the rapidly descending aircraft. However, another roll occurred shortly thereafter. Fewer than thirty seconds later, contact was lost as the plane crashed into a soybean field near Roselawn, Indiana (coordinates: 41.0944; -87.3222), killing all 64 passengers and 4 crew on board. The disintegration of the plane indicated an extreme velocity, and data recovered from the flight data recorder verified that the plane was traveling 375 knots (695 km/h) indicated airspeed at impact.[2]

I remember, call went something like this..."Hey A..., we are at mile marker/exit whatever on the interstate... (((boom))) "EEK!"....is there a tornado warn... (((boom))) "EEK!"...ing anywhere? Me: Well, by the radar it looks like the main storm is a little (((BOOM))) "EEK!"...north of you, but you should clear it in about... (((BOOM))) "EEK!"....10 mins. BTW, those EEKS were from you and everyone in the background along with a few expletives as well...LOL
That night I remember vividly as the storms kept "training" up I-30 through LR, and we had a couple tornadoes actually hit the LR metro area, one of which was in the supercell that you guys passed through.

Actually corn (maize) is the world's first genetically modified plant - it doesn't occur in it's current well known form naturally. The native Americans used genetic engineering to turn an unedibile grass into the plant we know today over thousands of years.
