Acupuncture for Migraines
Trying it today. Does anyone have any experience with Acupuncture? I have tried everything else and nothing helps. Hoping this may be it.

Excedrin Migraine is the only thing that ever worked for me, and they were really bad. Haven't had one in a while.

No, but I've had some wonderful experiences with a beautiful flexible female Chinese gymnast I used to know.

(My wife has migraines. The only thing that works for her is Imitrex injections. Hope you get some relief somewhere.)

That's great, nothing over the counter works for me, sometimes even the heavy duty stuff like oxy barely touches it.

You never disappoint oldmangrizz 03-lmfao

Thanks, Imitrex injections didn't work for me any better that Imitrex pills. It's hit or miss with Imitrex. Sometimes it will kill it in it's tracks and others it doesn't touch it.

Acupuncture wasn't fun, whom ever tells you it does not hurt is full of it....it hurts. But I will do 2 or 3 more sessions...doesn't hurt as bad as a migraine.

I suffer from chronic migraines. Have since I was in 2nd or 3rd grade(about 22 years). I have had sinus surgeries, taken allergy shots and had my tonsils removed all in hopes to help my headaches.

When I got older, the headaches got worse. I have quit smoking, cut out caffeine and alcohol. But the biggest thing I did was stopped taking all the tylenols, excedrins aspirins etc.. You name it I took it.

I saw a doctor who suggested that I was getting "rebound" headaches. These occur when you take too many tylenol type products(I was taking tylenol PM's in the middle of the day because it was the only thing that remotely helped). Anyways your body is not built to consume that junk daily.

My headaches have been a huge influence on my last ten(or more) years of my life causing me to miss work, hate life, become depressed at times. I actually thought I was suffering from "Cluster
headaches" which have been described by some people including women, stating that it is more painful than giving birth. I wouldn't know about the birth part and would never try to downplay the pain involved but I have been unable to function at certain times.

I can't say that it is your diet because I don't know you. But watching what you consume or atleast taking note of some of the stuff you take more than others could be of help. But it also might not have any influence. As I said Ive had them since I was a little kid and my diets have changed over the years.

I sincerely hope the accupuncture helps you.

I have also been told first hand by a few different people that there are certain spinal doctors who can realign your back and neck and more importantly "pop" your upper neck , near your skull. Each person highly recommended it but stated that they have had to pay more than they expected and also had to go back to get their necks "popped" again.

It's hard to diagnose headaches. Thats why doctors still do testing and surveys in order to find some new cures.

I'm also not some health nut and I am the last person that should give anyone advice but maybe just try cutting certain things out and see if you can find something that triggers your migraines. My triggers are smells, ie anything that is too "fragranty" really kills me including any kind of potpurri, air fresheners like Febreeze, gas or exhaust, cigs etc...

Best of luck to get rid of those headaches, I'll be rooting for you.

RE: Acupuncture for Migraines
I hope you find an answer, Tanya. I have them about three times a year, and I mostly just have the aura, which obscures part of my vision and causes me to lie down for at least an hour, which can be pretty awful if I am on a trial.

I think I have several triggers: Lots of bright lights, intake of a lot of sugar, a new computer screen, but mostly, stress, stress, and stress. I have not been able to identify any foods that lead to migraines, for me.

I have kind of, sort of learned, when I feel one coming on and my vision starts to get blurry, to relax, breath deeply, and try to be calm. This has actually stopped one in its tracks and made another one much less severe.

I also think mine are hereditary; my father had them. And he was often under a lot of stress at work, which I think triggered his.

RE: Acupuncture for Migraines
I have suffered from migranes all my life. I have not tried acupunture, but 2 years ago I eliminated the artificial sweetner aspartame from from my diet. It is found in most diet drinks and diet foods. I used to get 6-12 migranes a year and 2-3 "regular" headaches a week. I can't say that it has entirely stopped all of my problem but they are a lot less frequent now and those that I have are much less severe. I now go several weeks without a headache at all and I only have 2-3 migranes a year but they are not near as bad.

That's great. I am glad you're better.
I have had them my whole life as well. 30 years or so, started as a teenager. Mine are almost daily, some worse than others. Here is some of the things I have done not including playing with my diet trying to see what foods if any trigger them.

Botox twice.
Nerve block
Topomax
Beta blockers
chiropractors
Physical therapy
Most migraine abortive drugs including self administered injections.
Going to a pain clinic to control them.
And now Acupuncture
Not sure what else to try.

Home today in my cave (bedroom), no lights, no sounds and about to get off this computer.

I do, although there's no regular frequency. When I get them I can't see a damned thing until it goes away, then it leaves me with a dull headache. Usually occur after long periods of eye strain or stress.

Me, too. It's freaky to have half your vision gone. I agree eye strain and stress seem to promote them.

It's nice to find others who know what it's like, when I try to describe it people just don't seem to understand.

RE: Acupuncture for Migraines
Tanya, give this a look. They have a link to ask questions. Acupuncture can possibly help but for only a short term and then it begins to lose any effectiveness. At least in my experience with muscle/nerve related treatments. Also really good acupuncture practitioners shouldn't hurt. I would look like a pin cushion with about 100 needles and really could only feel a slight pressure when the needle was inserted. Not a sharp pain at all.
