Rice names 2012 MVP - More evidence of superior "mothering"
Junior cornerback Phillip Gaines was honored by his teammates with the Owls highest football honor on Sunday, winning the George Martin Award as Rice Football's Most Valuable Player for the 2012 season.

Congratulations Mom!

Congratulations to Phillip and OwlMom,

IIRC, among the several plays that were critical enablers of getting to 6-6 (which in turn enabled the bowl win), Gaines defended a 2pt conversion at Tulane that allowed us to preserve that win.

Gaines and Callahan at the critical CB spot are IMHO the most compelling evidence that our coach is recruiting better talent. Those guys seem to make a ton of plays. And they apparently are team leaders as well.

Thank you all so much! I figured he may win the DB award but was so emotional when he won the MVP. He loves to play and always works hard. He was so humbled yesterday when I asked him how he felt about winning the MVP. He said this was the best award since it was his teammates who honored him with it. I just need to keep him focused on school now. His upper level Econ classes are kicking his butt....lol. I can't wait for the season. We are going to show out!!!
