There aren't many threads on Rice baseball intrasquads either. Moondog and Rice footnball twitter account both had some updates. Boswell booted a few from 50, Malcom Hill returned a n INT for a TD.

Fun night. Lots of former coaches (Goldsmith, Hatfield, Conover) and players on hand. Fairly nice crowd. Lots of enthusiasm for next year.

Did someone other than Comcast pick up the channel?

If you are desperate and just have to see the ALastros and have DTV's MLB package you always go to the MLB HD Mix on channel 720 and put the red square around the ALstros game to get the sound....this tip courtesy of Joannie.

Rockets were on ESPN live last night. They don't play a lot of defense

RE: No Thread on Spring Game
Lots of 1st stringers out or not participating, so the groups were sort of hodge-podge.

Offense was slow out of the gate. Top 3 returning WRs didn't participate so that was a factor, neither did Hull. Kubiak got a ton of targets and looked pretty good. Got a couple of TDs. Was also overthrown a few times on deep balls. Gautreaux got second most looks. Had some drops early but then ended the scrimmage with a nice contested deep ball catch.

The younger RBs (Hamilton, Dillard and Turner) all looked good. Dillard and Hamilton especially. Hamilton is a load with some burst, Dillard gets to full speed fast and runs hard, catches well not surprisingly.

The defense was coming downhill fast and tackling ball carriers low.

Both top QBs looked solid. Stehling and Billups got a lot of snaps. Lots of deep balls thrown, few completed.

Boswell attempted a bunch of 50+ FGs. Made about half. Farrimomd was the more consistent punter.

Edit: Oh, yeah. Also the biggest spring game crowd I can recall. Looked like a lot of prospective recruits in attendance along with much of the 2013 signing class. Jarett Dillard informed the crowd he's now at South Texas college of law.

RE: No Thread on Spring Game
Biggest worry to me was reading comments from team about double digit victories being an expectation. Reeks of overconfidence and assuming results rather than aspiring to them.

Seen Rice lose too often to inferior teams they assumed were inferior to them.

Hope I am wrong and confidence is coupled with hard work and dedication to reach that goal.

Go Owls.

PS Read about Dillard looking good, but why the low yards per carry (10 for 23)???

We can at least get daily recaps of what happens in Rice baseball intrasquads..

Rice football, where no news is good news, apparently.

Thanks for the notes.

The game stats show Farrimond with only a 27.8 avg and 38 long, while Decell went 1 for 46. Are these right?

There has been plenty of traffic when the Owls had scrimmages. Have to think it is hard to report on position drills.

No. Decell shanked his only punt I believe. Farrimond is going to be a pretty good punter.

I recall Decell punting twice, Farrimond three times.

Decell's first was a low one that was downed at the one yard line by the coverage team. His second was a shank sideways.

Farrimond had the more impressive punts in terms of distance and hang time. He also was called on more, which suggests to me he's 1st string at the moment.

On Dillard's YPC, he probably ran behind the 2nd and 3rd string OLs more than the other backs.
