"Kiel has proven that he has trouble sticking by his decisions. In high school, Kiel, who was also recruited early by Alabama, verbally committed in July 2011 to play for the Indiana which is close to his home in Columbus, Ind. Then Kiel changed his mind and committed to LSU. He later changed his mind again just prior to signing day in 2012 and decommitted from the Tigers. On National Signing Day, LSU coach Les Miles publicly criticized Kiel for not having the “chest” to stick by his commitment. Kiel did sign with Notre Dame before being redshirted this past season.

Kiel is set to soon commit to his fourth school in less than two years. Unless he transfers to a lower division school, Kiel will have to sit out next season regardless, meaning he will go two full seasons without playing since he redshirted this past fall at Notre Dame. Even though he will have three seasons to play once he finally gets settled, it is unknown what effect the long layoff will have on Kiel’s ability to perform on the field. Does a coach really want to take a chance on a quarterback who has not seen the field since he was a high school senior?"

Full article

This guy sounds like a real head case......are we that desperate for a future QB? Was this guy ALL WORLD in high school? Or is he ALL WORLD in his own mind

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...iel-102803
http://hsindiana.scout.com/a.z?s=389&p=8...id=4358413

He was the #1 rated QB on scout and rivals. Unless he runs both of those sites, he was all world.

He had offers from:
Notre Dame
Alabama
Cincinnati
Colorado
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
LSU
Michigan
Missouri
Oklahoma
Purdue
TCU
Tennessee
USC
Vanderbilt
Wisconsin

Evidently, a lot of people (including ALABAMA!!!!!!) thought he was good.

If a player who has greyshirted, redshirts his first year it will be 3 years before he has a chance to get on the field. I see that as a non issue.

Him not playing since a senior in high school is a complete non issue. It's not like he's been out of football. I can't believe that was even included.

Gunner Kiel was in the same high school graduating class as Matt Williams and Drew Hare.

I would guess that it is going to be a close to home thing rather than not picking NIU.

A few tidbits on Gunner Kiel from this article:

-His mom is a Ball State alum

-Four players from his home town of Columbus, IN are on the current Ball State roster

-He has already visited Cincinnati and Miami in addition to Ball State

-He wants to make his decision by the end of spring football. So if he's coming to DeKalb for a visit it will be in the next two weeks.

Knowing that his mom went to Ball St I'm sure that's where he will go. He wants to stay close to home, he already went to ND because a relative played there, and he loves Indiana (although I don't know why anyone would love Indiana).

I say the same about the cesspool state of Illinois. How could anyone like this state? Indiana is pure paradise compared to Illinois.

He was the #1 QB in the country in last years recruiting class. Of course recruiting rankings don't mean everything, but he would be as decorated of a player to ever come to NIU. And he's playing QB.

Did you go to the same place as your parents did? I didn't.

He was a great high school player but so was Al Bundy. Noone knows if he can play at the college level right now.

He committed to Indiana, where his brother played QB, then to Notre Dame, where his uncle played QB. Now he will commit to Ball State, where his mother played QB.

And in response to MD, I'd would rather find out he is bad and on NIU than find out how good he is on Ball State or another MAC school.
