Maria Fantanarosa fired
This goes under the same heading as Reggie Witherspoon being fired at Buffalo. Maria played at Miami, she coached for 15 years and had a winning record and in fact was 4th in MAC career wins and could have moved into second next year. It might be noted that 2 of the 3 coachs above her on the career wins list also got fired ( Bob Lindseay at Kent and Mark Ehlen at Toledo). Maria had one NCAA team and 3 WNIT teams in 15 years, with one postseason victory. Our new AD decided that that was not enough. She had one year left on her contract and he said he either felt he needed to add some years or fire her. Having two of the best players in school history (all time leading scorer and alltime leading rebounder) and finishing 6th in the league was the final straw.

RE: Maria Fantanarosa fired
I can see why it happened, when you have some of the most talented players in our WBB history and many years to run your program, you're going to need results. But I do think it's strange why it took this long. I guess Sayler might've wanted to see if we could make a WNIT run, but you'd think an announcement would've come right after we were one-and-done or halfway through the season when it was clear we weren't going to be major contenders. It's a shame, Fantanarosa is a wonderful person, just couldn't come with big through as of late (Sayler probably wants to get his own coach in there too). BTW, this is his first firing as AD, it'll be interesting where he goes from here for his first hire.

Crazy to think the Akron coach who has only been there since 2006 is now the longest head coach in the league.

Yeah, maybe Sayler has Treadwell "on the clock" now. One can only hope.

Sucks for Maria, Ive known her a long time. As a Miami alum she's proud of the program and she'd have been perfectly happy retiring there.

Miami hires Cleve Wright from DII Gannon University (Pennsylvania). He was 233-100 in eleven years there with five DII Women's NCAA tournament appearances, in which he won eleven games total (made Final Four in 2010 and Elite Eight this past year). Past assistant coaching jobs include Butler and Northwestern.

Mark Ehlen resigned.

Then she's not at all like Reggie Witherspoon.
