Yeah, I've seen the plan. If they do the area shuttle right it'll be ok I guess.

And once the campus shuttle is in place, the next thing may be setting up a remote north, east or west campus in another part of the city.

That's not on the master plan, and I've never heard anyone mention it. There's plenty of room right now for UAB to grow into that is contiguous to the existing campus. Some of it may be on the other side of I-65, but you won't be going to Norwood or Woodlawn.

Yeah, and if we made a satellite campus we'd have to worry about them fielding a football team in 30 years.

At least the satellite campus at Legion Field would have an on-campus stadium.

we'd have a new football field and visitor seating paid for in a couple years...

It might be hard to convince people to park west of I 65 and ride a shuttle to class. I think it would be okay but only of you have some police on duty at all times there.

I dunno, I can see something between 65 and the railroad tracks. Add in an offramp from 65 that feeds straight into the parking deck and I can totally see it working.

That reminds me of a Johnny Carson line when the subways of NY were suffering a series of muggings and the Mayor (I think it was Koch) reassigned a couple thousand additional police to ride the subways. Carson said it was a good idea, particularly if you could just get on that particular car.

I hope you aren't directly talking to me, I love the city I just have had a family car broken into at the bell theater lot midday. I feel safe in the city but if that happens to enough people ... You follow?

My car got broken into in Pelham once. I live in Calera and my house got broken into once. What's your point.

The rear passenger window of my wifes car was busted out in my driveway. She learned to park the car in the garage and to not leave valuables visible when it is parked.

Crime happens everywhere... Birmingham, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Fairfield... Only death will separate you from it.

Speaking of, a woman got shot once in the parking deck of the Galleria, but that didn't stop any white people from continuing to shop there.

I suppose if it had been the Birmingham Galleria there would have been calls to raze the place.

I grew up in East Lake, and never had my mailbox bashed or trashcans stolen.

I moved to the NE corner of the county, between Clay and Pinson, and had both happen in the first month.
