In the meantime, he could at least show some effort in improving the athletic facilities(excluding the on-campus stadium). I dont have a clue what he does behind the scenes, but the only time i hear about him is when Blazertalk makes me aware he has an interview on the radio.
You looked around campus lately? Track has a near new all purpose practice surface, although no home facilities. That's the biggest deficit I know of.
Softball, new field and clubhouse. Baseball, clubhouse and the new Barons field agreement. Soccer is on the campus plan. The football offices will come up next, and that leads into the OCS. The weight room is fine. The new athletic med/therapy is up, isn't it? Athletic/academic complex is new. Bartow is ok, I'd like to see some updates but its perfectly serviceable. Sand volleyball is up and running.
What facilities do you think Mackin should be concentrating on? Bowling alley and rifle range? He'll be looking for a WBB coach as his next priority hire. I think the rest is in pretty good shape.
Specifically football.

Ummm. Yeah. Did I mention that the football offices should be one of the next things we see built? The weight room, training/rehab, and academic support buildings are all new.
Dude. I don't know how long you've been following the OCS saga, but if you really believe that Brian Mackin does not want that facility about twenty times more than you do, you're clueless. If you think that we don't have it due to a failure on his part to do what he can to make it happen, you are equally clueless.
Our Board of Trustees does not have the best interests of UAB Football as a priority. Period. Mackin can flail around, be very vocal and quoteable, organize a protest at the next BoT meeting, get on TV, in general raise a stink, and you know what will happen?
We'll be hiring a new AD, and likely one who is not a UAB man the way he is.
We all want it. Buy season tickets. Arm twist friends and family to go. Talk it up. Basically, it is going to take two things - butts in seats and enough public interest and pressure to force the BoT to relent. That may never happen as long as PBJ is there, but he can't last forever. Winning games is the wild card that can accelerate the process.

He's built a firewall out west where the only circumstance where the MWC is going to go after UTEP is in a cooperative move and - while the defectors spend their millions to do whatever it is they're doing, Banowsky has marginalized the Sunbelt nearly out of existence. When the nBE starts to crumble under its own weight and unfulfilled promises of Aresco and they need things to stabilize (FAST!) once the B1G/ACC/B12 go on the prowl, there's only one player in the East.
Anyone remember the Sunbelt squawk in 2011 about overtaking CUSA in the GoF? Don't hear that anymore...
The "firewall" is the lack of value in moving to the MWC. If anything, Boise State built the firewall by getting a sweetheart deal from the MWC and preventing the other schools from profiting more.
The nBE won't collapse "under its own weight". What will happen is the ACC will collapse under internal struggles and external forces. Our last possible saving grace is to become a strong enough football and basketball power to appeal to the left-behinds in the ACC (Wake Forest, Duke, Miami, NC State) that we become more profitable to them then taking an ECU, and academically palatable enough.
ACC is not going to collapse. There may be an ACC/XII merger/coalition/alliance/whatever, but the Cartel will prop up ACC at any cost. The BE couldn't have gotten that treatment from ESPN even if they wanted to (remember that there were 2 BCS bowls that came near to blowing the whole thing up because they had to deal w/ Cincy, UCONN, and Pitt) and the insane "Jurichification" behind closed doors had already written the ending before this latest saga began. Now you've got a collection of schools already spinning unequal revenue sharing and special concessions for certain schools (e.g., Navy...and they might still not bag them) and running on fumes of what that league was supposed to be. How many tugs on the threads do you suspect it will take before "partners" start peeling off (keep in mind their TV deal saying if they lose 2 of UCONN, Cincy, Houston, and a 4th school everything's negotiated from scratch...I don't remember the 4th because they had me at 'UCONN & Cincy'...might as well have written that deal on bubblegum wrappers)?

Wait, did Mackin actually say this? Because while it's probably true, I don't know if I'd be saying so publicly.

I'll be renewing my season tickets, although I'll only be able to attend 3 or 4 games.
