OT - Yu Darvish
At the Juice Box this evening:

Texas 7-0 Houston

W - Yu Darvish - 8 2/3 innings, 1 hit (w/ two outs in the ninth), 0 runs, 0 walks, 14 strikeouts

I know it's the Astros, but... oh my.

By the way, don't look now but our old friend Lance Berkman is batting a respectable .625 through two games. That's 5-for-8 for those scoring at home. Way to go, freshman!

So that's where all of the batting magic for this year's Rice Owls went. Lance stole it when he was here helping out. I knew there was some other explanation for why the team is scuffling offensively.

Explain to me how Berkman was too expensive for the Astros this year?

Don't worry, we'll get to see someone throw a perfect game against the Astros this season.

Berkman's 2013 salary with the Rangers is $10 million.

The Astros' highest paid player this year is Bud Norris, who makes $3 million. The entire team payroll is only $21 million.

There's a reason for that. Astros gm was interviewed on ESPN the other night and said basically there's no need to bring in big money free agents because they have long term goals in mind (IOW we're not trying to win this year, so why waste money)

And in the mean time he'd be taking up valuable playing time to see if they have anything for the future. And I have to imagine Lance will be much happier playing with the Rangers than the Astros this year...

Lance doesn't fit the Astros' needs and they don't fit his. Rangers are a much better fit both ways. And Lance, the Rangers, and the Astros all know that.

Also, Lance gets to be on Darvish's team, rather than get K'd by him.
