BBVA ends B'ham Bowl sponsorship after 2014
According to AL.com,
The Spanish bank BBVA said it is ending the bowl's sponsorship now so that ESPN can have time to find a new sponsor.

Any suggestions?

Heard that was a distinct possibility while I worked for the bowl. I spent fall 2011 as a marketing intern for BBVA Compass and then last fall in group sales for the bowl. Doesn't surprise me, BBVA Compass was cutting jobs while I was there so it's pretty hard to justify spending that much money on a sponsorship.

Those comments from Jackson, MS are clearly made by people who didn't attend the double headers they used to host in their own city's stadium. I recall being penned in between the outer fence and the crowds waiting for concession service during half times.

Legion field concessions have been discussed many times over many years, and we all know the fund-raising - all volunteer labor concessions will always fall short of professional food service standards. Running out of food to serve is just one aspect of this amateur based enterprise when no one knows from experience how much food is needed in time to have it available on site on a Saturday. This circumstance is one reason you get a bottled cola and a cup of ice which is hard to mess up and can be served quickly.

People from other locales may not know about the attempt by B'ham to replace Legion Field with the MPF in 1998 and that it was blocked by metro area voters who didn't want to pay any added taxes to create something in B'ham that might be good for the city. Now they complain that the "Old Gray Lady" is indeed showing her age and disabilities. The city knows that a lot of money would be needed to make even modest improvements in the stadium and probably still not come close to answering the critics who want MORE!

Honestly, I don't know how to reconstruct the food service concessionaire areas so that they can be attractive to private food service companies to improve this particular shortcoming. The present concession system remains the same as it was since the 1940s and 50s when AU and UA played many of their major games at Legion Field. People who complained then were disregarded by those in power because they were cared for at their seats by caterers like Mr Simonetti who provided them with food and drink not available to the regular fans who stood for half a quarter in line for hot dogs. Maybe some architect or structural engineer can contact the city with suggestions the city can afford.

The traffic problem was figured out somewhat by making 5th (Greymont) and 8th ONE WAY west before the game and the opposite after the game. 6th ave. was reserved for taxis, limos and shuttle buses from southside and downtown. Public parking areas downtown, UAB and the remote lot at the airport might be utilized these days.
