The AD is now reportedly gone, too.

That's another sad thing that will come from this.

Just like Coach K at Duke said he would never hire the assistant coach from Baylor who recorded the head coach when he (HC) tried to get other players and coaches to lie about Patrick Dennehy (who was murdered by another teammate) and say he was a drug dealer to cover up the money that the head coach had given to him.

Murdock has no future in college basketball and he knew it when he released the tapes. Information is trickling out about Rutgers trying to pay him off to keep him from releasing the tapes.

RE: OT: Rutger's Rice Berates Players at Practice
This was a failure on a lot of levels. Mike Rice went way over the line in many ways. The AD was defending his decision not to fire the coach up until the night before he fired him. So what made him worthy of being fired now? The inability to answer that and the false claim by the AD that he wanted to fire him in November got him fired. The president looks like a fool because he said he never saw the video until it was on ESPN in an attempt to be Pontius Pilate in this case. That's foolish because either he's (a) lying, since all evidence points to the president seeing the video in November/December or (b) he actively participated in handing down a harsh punishment in December for the third-highest paid employee in the university system without reviewing any of the evidence.

Finally, this was a complete failure by the New Jersey media. Is investigative journalism dead?? There are a bunch of self-righteous media outlets covering Rutgers and New Jersey sports (not to mention the NYC media) and not a single member of the local media submitted a Freedom of Information Act request in the wake of the suspension in December. It took coercing by ESPN to get the tapes from Murdock and then an FOIA request from ESPN to get the rest of the documentation and tapes from Rutgers. Rutgers does not have an inordinate amount of power in New Jersey so it's very strange how the media in the state wrote their stories in December based solely on press releases from the school. What else did they have to write about in the winter in the college sports world in New Jersey? All of the NJ basketball teams were terrible. Did they have to kiss up to RU so they could have exclusive access at the Beef O Brady Bowl (or whatever bowl RU went to)? It made little sense and it was disgusting how the local media pounced on Rice after the tapes surfaced thanks to ESPN's work.

And by the way, the AD is getting a lovely severance package. The terms of the package have been released. The local media still did not put in an FOIA request for it; the AP did. I've never seen so many media outlets scared of a university. Hell, Ohio media even goes after Ohio State and the football and basketball teams they deify year after year.
