It is going to be a "Banner" Day for the Golden Hurricanes...sorry could not resist...05-stirthepot

But really, it is the right move...they had to get out of C-USA...I do feel for USM...they deserve better...

Let's see if USM dominates every year then.

Assuming they hired the right coach I expect they will. They've been arguably the best program in every version of C-USA so why would I expect that to change now?

I dunno if USM will.
Last 5 years:
UAB 1-4
LT 2-0
Marshall 2-3
MTSU 0-1
Rice 1-2
UTEP 1-2
WKU 0-1
total 7-13 vs new CUSA schools

USM is a lot like ECU, which for years had the best FB attendance of the little guys. Eventually they had the chance to move up, or thought so. Maybe USM will as well.

Worth noting---the Tulsa president mentions in the press conference that the new name will likely include the word "America" or "American".

Looks like a run of the mill marketing firm was hired. Put "America" in the name and everyone will have an attachment to it. It's GOLD, Jerry . . .GOLD!

Might as well make it the American Apple Pie, 4th of July Conference.

This conference will last 1,000 years!

I just have a feeling it's going to be the American Metro Conference.

I guess they hated "12".

12 is the new 13, nobody likes that number.

Wonder if Navy wanted "America(n)" in the name? Why not All American Conference?

Or they thought that America(n) would not ring as hollow since they have a service academy on the way (or two or three ~ they've made no secret of their willingness to consider Army or Army/AirForce).

Not sure why they are all haters of the "America 12". I really haven't heard any better suggestions. Maybe I'm so used to hearing America East that America 12 doesn't sound awkward.

"Eastern Athletic Conference" / "EAC". Sensible, traditional and dignified.

RE: Tulsa Press Conference - 10:30 a.m. today
In the USA Today article, the writer makes a good point in that Tulsa brings potential in basketball. Since realignment is almost completely driven by football, it's easy to forget that men's basketball is the second most visible and sellable comodity in college sports. A league that may have average football (Gof5 conferences) can increase it's income and exposure significantly if it can build competitive basketball and send it's teams to postseason tournaments. This is especially true of small conferences that have a hard time keeping up in big-time college football. Every Gof5 conference should be thinking just as much about basketball as it does about football before expanding and sending invitations to new members.
