I think that "historically worst" might be a bit harsh, I'd think in the longer time FBS schools, that title may belong to New Mexico State University.

... oh, wait ...

Can't blame them for feeling that way. Their biggest rivals left them in the dust. At least they've got FBS schools joining them.

Must be pretty tough for you after the Ragin Cajuns put a boot about 2 feet up your backside this past bowl season

Though that would put Toledo in the East.

Sun Belt lost bottom feeders F_U and NT and added FCS powers Ga Southern and App. Ga Southern was ranked 72 in Sagarins and App was not far behind. The Sun Belt finished ahead of CUSA in Sagarins and will extend that lead once App and Ga Southern transition.

Not to mention F_U have 5k fans in the stands while App and Ga Southern average 20k and 28k respectively.

Cajuns have been in FBS a long time and have never done jack. Don't feel sorry for yourselves. It's like someone at a job that is a bad performer and never gets promoted, but wants to blame everyone else.

That's not a bad thing really. The MAC needs one or two strong programs in the East and Ohio/Toledo along with the occasional Miami run could balance out the divisions a bit.

Completely disagree with your analogy. We (fans) aren't the bad performer, our old administration was. I think us fans have carried our athletic program through its coma, and back into the busy street. Back-to-back 9-4 seasons, back-to-back bowl wins, and $120 million athletic facilities master plan. So yea, I do feel sorry for ourselves (fans) being in this situation.

RE: OT - Sun Belt expansion
I'm in the minority in thinking we should add programs with great football. Nine out of ten expansion posts in the sunbelt forum are about adding FCS teams that do not rank in the Top 25 of FCS consistently. Am I the only one that is bothered by that mentality?

Two years ago, we (SBC teams) all wanted was for the sunbelt to progress, and we were somewhat happy with the improvement our programs made. Now we want to add teams that aren't even good FCS programs. If you're a Troy fan, and you go from playing in a much improved SBC to playing startups and bad FCS teams, you have to imagine how Troy fans feel about that. Essentially, with most of the SBC leaving (more could leave within the next year or two), and all these FCS programs moving up, its the equivalent of being dropped down to FCS.

For FCS move ups and startups, bringing up FCS buddies makes for a "great conference." I'd feel the same if I were FCS. However, the mindset for current FBS SBC teams is radically different. People should understand that distinction.

I'm happy about Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, but that's it. Beyond that Troy's place in the college football world has been downgraded. Won't help our perception one bit. Troy vs Prairie view, that's exciting, and I'm sure our fairweather fans feel the same way.

You are who you hang out with.

I'm not that bummed out. TXST seems to have their act together or at least Houston thought so. In the history of the FBS there has never been a school with three FCS titles to their name move to the FBS and the Sun Belt is getting one with three titles and one with six. The evidence suggests they actually know how to run a football program.

Some fans maybe.

As their AD said you are either in one of the power conferences or you are a 'G5', and the only way to be noticed in the 'G5' is to win. He said their football coaches feel that nothing that has happened prevents them from winning a lot of football games.

Not sure the football coaches at some of these other schools can say the same thing.

As you will read, it is not an inflamatory post unless you are opposed to thinking out of the box. Posting this here will give Sun Belt fans a chance to see the suggestion since a large number read this board. Again I apologize.

The post:

I think the Sun Belt should protect itself by inviting five HBUs: Jackson State, Southern, Grambling, UAPB and Texas Southern or Prairie View.

(Twice I have suggested the Belt invite HBUs, and twice Sun Belt Board moderator Chiefsfan has sent me warnings for tearing down the Belt. In addition to the warnings he deleted my second post earlier tonight. That post basically had these non-inflammatory opinions. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that Chiefsfan is not fit to be a a moderator because he is not open to honest discourse and is culturally insensitive or worse. I would hope his temperamental decisions are not due to racism.)

Back to the topic at hand:

This would be beneficial to the Belt in several ways:
1. The Sun Belt would be a leader with this bold move.
2. Attendance would increase.
3. Better name recognition.
4. Possibly increase the Belt's TV value.

Individually, the schools have a lot to offer:

Texas Southern or Prairie View - provides the Belt access to the Houston market and ensures a presence when Texas State leaves.
Grambling - draws well on the road and is a natural rival for its UL-system sister institution ULM.
UAPB - gives the Sun Belt presence in the Little Rock/Pine Bluff market and provides ASU with a much desired rivalry with the University of Arkansas (granted, it is not the Fayetteville version, but close enough.)
Southern - fans travel very well, gets the Belt in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans markets and is a natural rival academic peer of UL-Lafayette.
Jackson State - great home attendance, provides a new state and has plans for a new domed stadium.

Other options include Alabama A&M or Alabama State (provides a rivalry for Troy), FAMU (returns the Belt to Florida), and North Carolina A&T (provides App. State with an-state rival.)

This is a winning proposition for the Belt.
