I'm guessing that unless we add two more this is what it will be.

Eastern Division

MTSU
Charlotte
FAU
FIU
Marshall
Old Dominion
Western Kentucky

Western Division

Louisiana Tech
UAB
North Texas
Rice
Southern Mississippi
UTEP
UTSA

Why does there always have to be an East-West fixation in conferences?

North
Marshall
WKU
ODU
MTSU
Charlotte
UAB
USM

South
FIU
FAU
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
Rice
UTEP
UTSA

There doesn't but mileage wise it seems to work better east and west. If we were not so spread out north and south would be better. This helps the Olympic sports. (Just my opinion)

This is exactly what I would want. The division split up really only matters in basketball.(do we go to 19 games?) I want to be in the division with stronger basketball, and that is without doubt going to be the east.(no offense to Tech and UTEP, but the rest is just meh at best) FIU and FAU are essentially on an island of there own down there. No school is even close to them, and they are kind of like UTEP in that regard. If we added ODU, Charlotte, MTSU, and WKU just to be kicked into the weaker basketball division, I'm going to be pissed. Plus, MTSU and WKU are especially easy drives for me now. It won't be the end of the world if UAB gets shipped to the west, but it will hurt if we are trying to build some rivalries closer to home.

I don't think any of this really matters though. I'm sure this has all been discussed behind closed doors, and UAB, Marshall, and USM are going to end up where they want to, which I would imagine is in the same division. It will all work itself out in time.

I don't think we will have divisions for basketball. Just football. That said they need to match up projected higher RPI teams for the teams we will play twice IMHO. Right now UAB and USM should always be a home and home.

If we go for 16 I wouldn't mind 4 team pods myself.

You could have

A
FAU
FIU
ODU
Charlotte

B
WKU
MTSU
Marshall
UAB

C
USM
La Tech
Louisiana
Ark St

D
UTEP
UTSA
Rice
UNT

Something like that

Just throwing it out there. Anyway they still need to try as best they can to make sure the higher RPI teams play each other. For example under that format we would not be able to play everybody. Play your pods home and home and then play one game against another pod.

On a 16 game conference schedule there would be two teams you won't play. If you had a sub 200 RPI I would not make any of the higher RPI teams play them. Follow me?

I follow you, and I agree with the logic. However, I don't believe there is a chance in hell this will actually happen. There are so many ifs ands and buts involved that I cannot see how we would try to argue that RPI 201 is going to be worse than RPI 195 next year. I think we need to play every team in conference at least once, and I wouldn't mind a longer conference schedule to make this happen. Like I said, I'm sure this has all been discussed behind closed doors, and I'll live with whatever happens, I just hope we play Charlotte, ODU, MTSU, and WKU with regularity based on the quality of those programs.

I would love that setup for UAB, but it would never work. For one thing, FAU/FIU are about 2000 miles from UTEP. Also, the teams in the North division are going to want to play road games in Florida and Texas. Marshall for one will always want to stay in the division with the Florida schools.

If we are being forced to the West then we should be given preference in basketball scheduling.
