There was quite a bit of discussion locally when the season started about AT's weight gain. That is what my post said. Whether he was "out of condition" during the season, as you write about, is a different discussion from my simple statement.

I'm not in shape to continue on this thread.

And I didn't see any evidence that Tarik and Adonis came into the season overweight.

Adonis was a bit overweight in September, but he looked in good shape once November rolled around.

I don't remember seeing anything about Tarik being heavier.

After Maui he was a freaking beast for us all last season. I think the weight did him well.

Whatever was up with him this season, I don't think it was physical.

Actually in the 2005 the prior coach lost 12 games and MEMPHIS played in the NIT.

What is revealing in the quote above is....Pastner is right.

When he kept saying "Going 19-0 in the conference and 30 wins in a season is NOT a birthright", he was actually speaking to the attitude some TIGER fans have that such a gaudy record IS in fact some entitlement owed to MEMPHIS BB.

Dat.B.Me totally represents that "birthright" mentality with his comment above. His "having 30 wins" criteria validates what Pastner preached the final month of the season.

No Actually, 2005-2006 the Tigers were 33-4

But the way you originally cited the seasons implied the END of each season. If you try to say 2005-6, then the final season you cite is 2009-10, which was Pastner's first season. You can't have it both ways.

You said 2005-2009. That is 5 seasons:

2005 - 12 losses, NIT
2006 - 4 losses, NCAA Elite 8
2007 - 4 losses, NCAA Elite 8
2008 - 2 losses, Title game loser, season VACATED
2009 - 4 losses, NCAA Sweet 16

More important, however, is you did NOT dispute my birthright argument. Thanks for validating what I already suspected.

Any S&C program is only going to be as good as the effort given by the athletes.

That's kinda the fallacy of the s&c issue..especially from the conditioning side.

95% of all high level college baskeball players are fully conditioned, and the idea that one high level team will (in a conditioning sense) "wear down" another high level team is silly.

As for the argument that "NBA players seek his advice therefore it proves he's the best" is an aside argument especially given the difference in trainng regimens.

A "boot camp" 6 week summer program individually tailored for ONE particular NBA player is likley a heck of a lot different than a full time "non-crash course" program that is in place for a group of 13 players. No different that having a nutritionist work with MMA guys on dropping 20 pounds in 10 days vs. having a nutritionist help someone with a desire to lose 10 pounds over a span of months an keep the weight off.

Again, looking back at this season, both AT and Tarik came in heavier than they should have been and the best physical specimen--Geron--didn't step foot on campus until August.

As for "bulk" and the idea that Memphis lost to MSU (had no chance to compete) because they were "bigger" than Memphis, I don't see where success has a direct relation to bulk--who left in the FF has a lot of bulk? Small ass Siva and Russ Smith? Skinny Dieng? Syracuse plays one player heavier than 230, Memphis has three. Michigan doesn't have a player with more than 6 rpg on the team.

I didn't see any evidence of this. Neither Black nor Adonis looked out of shape during the season.

Adonis looked contact shy for the first half of the season, but it wasn't the weight that made him so IMO. I think he was worried about reinjuring himself until February of this year.

I will repeat. Conditioning was not our issue.
