Marshalls AD is doing what he thinks is best. You cant blame him for wanting to add wku.

Can't really blame anyone for wanting to add them.

They're the best option on the table for CUSA IMO.

Football has made a pretty strong transition to FBS, basketball is always pretty strong there, and they compete well in olympic sports.

Hard to find any better realistic options out there that are also great for travel.

I hope he is right. I am just ready for a change.

Also, this league could be a really nice BBall conference. Unlike the Sun Belt, most every team actually cares about basketball. Many actually have either a history of success or recent success. I could see the New C-USA getting multiple bids with some smart OOC scheduling put in place (think what the MVC has done).

Either way I would like to know something official soon, just so everyone can move on.

He also cleared up the exit fee controversy. The people saying it was 500K + any loss in TV value were pretty much corrrect.

"Also, the exit fee for the [departing] schools is a flat $500,000. But the schools must also pay the difference if the next contract is less than the current one. I'd be surprised if the next contract is less, but if it is the former schools have to collectively make up the difference."

Bascially theres zero chance of anyone losing media income for the next 3 years. The exiting schools have to make up any change in the 35 million dollar C-USA total contract payout.

I think WKU getting the next invite to CUSA is almost one of the worst kept secrets in American sports right now

There are some teams further to the west who don't agree with him. I'm not going to name names but you can probably surmise who they are. There's a bit of a battle brewing between a few of the presidents on what to do. Some in favor of someone else, some in favor of no action at this time and then another faction ready to add Western now. This is also complicated by having as many new schools yet to officially join (i.e. July 1) as there are current.

There's no way to know how this is going to play but my gut tells me that it's a combination of the last two. That is to say no immediate action but Western is added before June 30. Of course that's contingent on the ACC not getting eviscerated between now and then.

CUSA needs to wait and see what other conferences like Big 10 & SEC do to the ACC

Not a bad idea. The landscape could change radically.

I still think both SEC & Big 10 will end up at 16 after taking what they want from ACC then we might see Big 12 look at 4 other teams in ACC then the ACC will take what they want from Conference TBA

WKU will be added but a team or two has expressed reservations. That is going to happen no matter who is added. We will not sit at an odd number for more than a few months. There is no waiting around because no one that left IS EVER COMING BACK. kthxbai

Under a very specific scenario that's granted probably less than 10 percent some may not have a choice. The precedent is now set after Boise did it.

I would bet the Texas schools want another western school, but the best option in the West is who? New Mexico State. I think I would much rather have WKU.
