Mick Cronin a candiate for UCLA and USC openings?
There isn't a ton of smoke around this but I did see where Mick declined to comment on being a candidate for the UCLA job. To me, southern California does not seem to fit Mick Cronin at all. Not in recruiting or in lifestyle but you never know.

Mick Cronin is going nowhere. He is a single father and his dad attends every practice. If one of the mega jobs within 200 miles like Uk, IU, or UL wanted him I'd imagine he may listen but he's not going any further than that.

Even those jobs are out of state and may affect his custody agreement.

That's the thing a lot of people don't look at...but that's honestly the biggest factor.

Wait, I hear from a lot of fans that he's not even good enough for UC. Why would any other program want him?

If he does talk to USC or UCLA it is probably for leverage in renegotiating his contract.

Given that he's from Cincinnati, a UC alum, a single dad and has a custody agreement it would seem unlikely he would leave since coaching at UC makes so much sense.

However, the weather and lifestyle in SoCal as compared to SWOH is a nobrainer and Mic could easily afford a top quality nanny for his little girl.

UCLA was at one time THE basketball power.
Maybe they'd be interested in Mick since he rebuilt UC's program.

A move seems unlikely but you never know.

Leverage for what, though? Would I be wrong to assume that he'd be much more focused on upgrades in funding and facilities for the basketball program rather than personal salary?

Can you imagine the devastation that would be imposed on Mick's skin in California, especially southern california? SUN POISONING is not a pretty thing to see.
:)
if we ever would lose Mick, we'll experience for the rest of our lives, a constant revolving door of basketball coaches. It would be pretty similar to what our football program goes through. A coach having a good 2 or 3 years and then running off to a better paying program. A school the size of UC and having the resources available of the many large corporations in Cincinnati boggles my mind in how this school struggles with finances. Lots of mismanagement for years of previous administrations. We should have been in better shape than UK and UL.

UCLA offers...he is gone...no inside knowledge but how could you not do that if you were a coach

Pauly Pavilion just got renovated...have you seen this place?

http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/ba...121024-003

Its beautiful...first class, state of the art...

How many national titles, 8?, how many All Americans, too many,

Great conference, great city, great facilities, great location, great fan base, top 25 in revenue and budget,

Not to mention...

I disagree with this. Our last basketball coach stayed 16 years and did not leave until he was forced out. There is no evidence to suggest UC would experience that kind of revolving door. Look at schools like Butler and VCU who have been able to lock down Stevens and Smart respectively. Both may leave some day... but it is going to take a special job.

Doubt he'd leave but ucla is alluring to most coaches. It is a bit like the ND football job...the history and romance of it all is exciting for coaches...till they get eaten up and spit out like most of the others who come before them.

Notre Dame never lost the fan support. UCLA does not have the fan support unless it is performing at the highest of levels. I'd say it's a weaker job. Also there are a ton of distractions in LA. That said, it's still a job coaches will want.

3-point shot: Coaching carousel whirls
March, 28, 2013

By Andy Katz | ESPN.com

1. Minnesota coveted VCU’s Shaka Smart, but his former boss, current Golden Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague, couldn’t convince Smart to come to the Twin Cities (he should know Smart is loyal to VCU) for the head-coaching job from which Tubby Smith was just fired. According to sources, the Gophers have now turned their attention to Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg and Butler’s Brad Stevens. We’ll see, but I’ll be shocked if either were to go to Minnesota. Hoiberg is the Mayor in Ames (it's his alma mater) and has Iowa State in a good place after back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. If Hoiberg were to leave for Minnesota, the NBA's Timberwolves, not the Gophers, would make more sense. I can’t see Stevens bolting, either, with how much he loves the Butler way and working for AD Barry Collier. Stevens can have a lifetime contract at Butler, much like Mark Few has at Gonzaga. If they can't convince either of these two, the Gophers may make a play for Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin. But Cronin is from Cincinnati and loves his gig, too. The only reason he might listen is if he sees the need to go to a school in a more stable conference.

Mick has done a decent, not outstanding, job. If he has interest from other programs, I expect that Whit will make modest efforts to retain him, and failing that, he will simply upgrade to a more proven coach. See CBJ to TT.

Tubby? Or even Howland?

Can't believe that any UC fan would call U of L a bigger job....Pitino gets paid more than Mick because he produces better results & packs the arena full. A UC coach who produced comparable results would earn comparable dollars.

It would be ironic for him to jump from a job where the fans won't forgive him for not being Huggins, to one where the fans won't forgive him for not being Wooden.

If Mick were to leave I'd go after Bruce Pearl. Dude has more than served his time for lying about a minor infraction.
