Excellent article. Love seeing someone say it's silly to pick Toledo until someone knocks of the king.

Did I miss something? Did Eastern Michigan drop football? Because the Eagles aren't in this preview.

EMU is there at the bottom, in Tier 3. I am surprised how much credit he is giving to Bowling Green. I'm not saying they are going to be bad, but he thinks they're as good as Toledo and better than Ball St. I watched the Kent St BGSU game last year and didn't think the Falcons looked like a MAC winning team.

RE: Hustlebelt NIU Still King
BG has a bucket load of people back maybe 18 starters and they have very high expectations. From what I can gather from the paper there is a fairly open QB competition given that Schilz will be a 2 or 3 yr senior starter this year. Schilz is not the QB who can take them to the top of the East division. They lose their 2 best players on defense and best running back (Samuels) but I think most other top players return. I would think that BG will be high on the list of most pundits choice to win the East.

Maybe I'm dumb, but how do they figure the adjusted score for 2012?

I think there's a lot of parity at the top this year. NIU, UT, BSU, Ohio, Kent State and Bowling Green could all be in the first tier.

It's an advanced metric similar to saber metrics in baseball. It probably is some formula involving plays, yards, etc, but I really don't know anything about it either.

It's obviously not always accurate because the adjusted score for the UT-Martin games was us losing 31-23. Although, we outgained UT-Martin 427-346, so I really have no idea.

The Florida State adjusted score was us losing 29-21.

Thanks. That was the reason I had asked because the UT Martin game was a no contest....
