Espn insider reporting Tulsa to Big East (A12)

Middle Tennessee State
Rice
Which one of these does not belong?
Add in FIU, FAU, USM, ODU, UNC-Charlotte, and Marshall, and it looks pretty grim for Rice. They have nothing in common with any of these schools.
I don't, they knew this was coming and did nothing. They have the resources but chose not to use them.

A bit glib. They have had some success in football lately, and are obviously committed in baseball. Basketball could use improvement. Its more that we don't need another team in Houston. If UH didn't exist, Rice would already be in.

I grew up going to Rice football and baseball games. I didn't know about SMU until I got the scholarship.

I think SO highly of Rice...its biggest problem is the Univ of Houston taking the Houston television market to allow conference advancement.

market duplication is a problem for Rice. But they've known where this is heading for a while. I agree with the SMU poster above - they have the resources and they won't direct them. At least Cowen was alert enough to see where everything was headed and decided to, finally, invest, relax the standards some (not all the way, but somewhat).
I also don't know what Rice's position on the first C-USA expansion was. But if they supported that nonsense (which we did not), they dug their own grave.

On another subject, they should have a good team next year. But we came within a missed 2 point conversion to taking them into OT (and late in the year during their hot streak) so I'm not overwhelmed.

I was super impressed with thier QB last year.

Ive got no beef with the WKU fluffers on the CUSA board.
WKU is a good school and they will excel in CUSA
I just want this to become official.
Tulsa fans are happy to be in the A12/TBD/nBE.

I like the clowns on the C-USA board saying that WKU is a upgrade over Tulsa.
ECU, Tulane, and now Tulsa will have a long year of attacks on Cusa board. Every Cusa school left behind plus newbies (Marshall posters seem to be leading the negatives) will be pulling against us three so any support from those schools leaving this year will be most appreciated. Lets support new conference and each other:)

RE: Espn insider reporting Tulsa to Big East (A12)
Everyone here (other than ECU) has attendance problems. It is what it is. Ive gone to SMU games for 10 years and Ive never seen more people in the seats (other than a Big 12 opponent or TCU) there than I have at a Tulsa game and yes that includes last years CUSA championship. Anyone thats been to the Superdome for a Tulane game knows the reported numbers are a joke. Didnt Cinncy have 20K for Sr day. Im not ripping on those schools Im just saying everyone has problems. I think all schools are making positive strides to improve this. So can everyone just STFU about Tulsa and attendance.
Tulsa is a great school and will compete for championships in every sport every year. Period. Not to mention we are excited to be here which is a lot more than I can say about some of the other schools.

Yes that is completely out of the question. Tulsa could go undefeated and still finish well below the top 15.
We (Tulsa) finished in the top 25 last year and lost 3 games. So an undefeated season would certainly get consideration for a top 10 imo. We've finished in the top 25 two of the previous 3 years.

I think he is implying the loss of the SOS boosters in Houston and UCF, etc... as well as the addition of FAU, FIU and whatnot.

BTW the year in between that we didn't finish in the top 25, we lost 4 regular season games to teams all ranked in the top 10 (at the time) - Oklahoma, Okla St, Boise St and Houston (with Keenum).

It doesn't matter if Tulsa is competitive or not. They bring a small media market.
There are nearly 1,000,000 people in the Tulsa metro area. That is somewhat comparable to New Orleans (1.1 million) and Memphis (1.3 million) in metro pop.

I find it hilarious that after Tulsa apparently leaving CUSA, that a vast majority of CUSA posters on their board STILL think that nCUSA = nBE(TBD). If nCUSA was equal, then answer me one question. Why are ALL of their good programs leaving or have left to nBE. This is one question that can't be answered.
They are the most ridiculous group of people on these boards. I saw a post the other day saying how they "upgraded" with all the teams replacing outgoing members. I mean, how can they honestly say this stuff.
The nCUSA better watch out for the Sunbelt conference. They are adding Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. Those are good adds.

Look @ NIU last year in 2012
They opened the season & lost to Iowa
then ran the table,
beat Army by one & beat a crappy Kansas team
Won the MAC conference Championship
got a BcS invitation
In 2013,
TU’s OOC schedule is way better than NIU’s last year
If TU loses only to OU but runs the table the rest of the way
They will have an excellent shot at a BcS Bowl
Voters will put a 12-1 Tulsa team in the Top 15

It doesn't matter if Tulsa is competitive or not. They bring a small media market, a small school profile, no following outside Oklahoma, mediocre attendance and no national cache. I recognize that Tulsa is an excellent academic institution and has enjoyed success in football and basketball on numerous occasions in its athletic history. But this is the kind of addition that does nothing to enhance the profile of Conference TBD. Tulsa at UCONN, Tulsa at Cincinnati or Tulsa at Temple, among others, is a recipe for fans saying "Lets stay home and watch the Patriots, Bengals, Ohio State, Eagles, or Penn State game". In Cincinnati, fans aren't going to pay $45 per ticket to watch Tulsa when they can stay home and watch Ohio State play Michigan State or Wisconsin or Penn State or Michigan for free. And to be fair, I don't expect Tulsa fans to pay $45 either to watch Cincy come to Tulsa when Tulsa fans can, and probably do, stay home and watch OU or OK State play Texas, Texas Tech, or Kansas State.
At least as good as Tulane. Actually, far far better.
There weren't many better options left.
