They need each other, really. It's hard to say who needs the other more - JMU could fill the opening with an assistant with good potential in a second if need be - that might work out. Maybe. Brady could probably line up a pretty good assistant position for a year and then test the waters for a head coach spot next year if needed. Clearly this would be Plan B for both parties, I assume. Maybe they already have a hand shake agreement and aren't as concerned as we are.
The DNR/Chris Simmons writes today that the original extension offered Coach Brady was a 3 year extension with only two years guaranteed. I hope they can agree on 4 today.

I don't think he stated that as fact, but rather speculated that it might be something like that.
"A few weeks ago, JMU offered him a new deal with terms that were a tad parsimonious: most likely three years, but only two guaranteed, plus a modest pay raise."
Thanks for the correction and sorry I was not accurate. Hope something gets done. I think he deserves 4 years. No matter what transpires, hopefully it happens this week. Either announce Coach has a new contract or announce no deal could be reached and name a new Coach. Did our Spring commitments sign?

I struggle with the idea of giving Brady another four years. Up until the 2012-2013 season (and even through most of that season), Brady's teams had generally been bad to slightly better than mediocre. I know people will point to 20-win seasons, but 20-win seasons aren't what they once were with the increase in total games. In other words, a modern 21-15 is not nearly as impressive as a historical 21-7.
I think three years with two guaranteed and a modest raise sounds fair for all parties involved. Then again, I'm not sure how much leverage our admin has this late in the spring. It would be tough to go out and make a good hire at this point.
When I look at where this program was with Dillard/Keener, and today with Brady, those 20 win seasons WERE impressive to me. This season, "bad-CAA" or not, WAS impressive to me. Why? Because it seems for the first time in a long time people care about basketball. Not us fanatics, but regular JMU fans care. To not give him a vote of confidence and make him clearly be "your man" to continue with this program is unthinkable to me.

Agree!!! I'm not opposed to Brady at all. But, as late as our Hampton game this season, we were all wanting something new. The team made a good recovery from that point, but it wasn't an earth shattering recovery. Some minor adjustments can be negotiated, but we need some consistancy before sticking it out there too much.

Agreed. The four years I was in school, if you had asked me what I think a coach deserved who got JMU to 3 20 win seasons in 5 years, I would have said a Nobel Prize.
Guys, let's not forget our recent basketball history. For the first time in forever, people are very excited about JMU bball.

I side with the JMU admin on this. I'd like to see Brady come back but we all know this year was a fluke. Prove to be consistent in a less depleted CAA. If we make it to the Tourney next year then you can always renegotiate the contract.

I wouldn't use the word "fluke", but I would say this was an unusual year.
That shouldn't be Brady's fault, though. He still won the tournament.
He made adjustments to his coaches and had his players healthy for a change.
I felt like this team finally bought in to Brady.
While I do agree winning the CAA isn't what it has been, I would hate to lose what appears to be a program that turned a corner.

i'm just really surprised so many people share this view.
Mickey was going to be fired before he won a title. some would say that was a fluke to as we could have easily been bounced in Rd 2 at Furman if not for some fortuitous bounces (see: the fumble).
why can't this just be the turning point to success that has long been over do for this program?
I tend to believe it is. The talent Brady has brought in has been better than his two predecessors ever did.
