Thanks New Mexico
I tried to give a little love to our lost friends in Albuquerque in my 3 brackets and they failed me once again. LOL

I actually respected the legacy of Booby Knight and Steve Alford, I was proven wrong. Thanks Lobos

How many brackets did Harvard bust tonight?

I had those MWC chumps going to the Sweet 16 in 1 of my brackets and the Elite 8 in my other 2.

Should have known better since they've never been that far in their history and they've had some good teams in their history. At least Gonzaga has been that far and pulled through in a dog fight they shouldn't have been in today.

Utah was the only school that was consistent in basketball until they tanked right before they left for the Pac-12.

I think the committee over-seeded the entire MWC, based on inflated RPIs. Well done, Hair Thompson, but I don't think it will work again. (The MWC noticed that buy games against non-Division I schools don't hurt your RPI the way buy games against lousy Division I schools do. So they scheduled Portland Tech while everyone else was scheduling No. 300 Portland State, etc.)

MWC gamed the RPI and the committee fell for it, using it rather than really looking at who they played and beat and where.

I hit 13 of 16 yesterday - losing a sweet 16 team in New Mexico (I figured that an overrated MWC team would fold against Ohio State). My bracket is damaged goods - not destroyed.

I knew New Mexico was going to get exposed. I didn't think a 19-9 Harvard team was going to come close to doing it. Oh well.

MWC gets exposed as the most overrated conference this year. 1-3 on opening day and San Diego has to play Oklahoma tonight. They're looking at 1-5 at worst for opening weekend unless Colorado State can pull off a major upset.

Never would've guessed it but the PAC 12 is the best conference west of the Mississippi River this season after Oregon tore Oklahoma State to pieces.

Not going far and not being able to beat Harvard are two completely different things. haha

The good thing is everyones bracket is damaged now. No one outside of Cambridge took Harvard.

I will say CSU looked surprisingly tough. Hed them getting beaten by Missouri in all my brackets. Don't think they have much chance against Louisville, but they can definitely rebound the hell out of the ball (and that was against the #3 rebounding margin team).

Nobody's bracket got busted with this game because everybody duffered the same loss. Did anyone really pick Harvard?

The good news for me is that I had New Mexico losing to Arizona anyway. The people who really got hurt are the ones who had New Mexico going to the Sweet 16or beyond.

Missouri has awesome talent but you never know if and when they will get their heads in the game. They can beat anyone or lose so easily.

The beauty of NCAA BB is that the championship is settled on the court. The little guys get the chance. I wish CFB would at least go to an eight team playoff...01-lauramac2

Watching that game, to me that was more CSU playing well than Mizzou playing poorly. Mizzou shot decent, only turned it over 5 times, made 90% free throws. CSU just shot well and rebounded even better (and actually had 9 more turnovers than Mizzou- probably kept it closer than it was).

Well CSU was seeded ahead of Mizzou, so I guess the committee got it right...

That's right. The MWC had 11 games this year vs. non D-I teams. (CSU, SDSU, and Boise each played two non-D-I teams.) The non D-I games are treated like exhibitions and don't count against RPI or strength of schedule. Clearly an intentional strategy to game the RPI. Others will copy that in the future, I'm sure. And the strategy worked so well because the NCAA selection committee presumably didn't watch enough hoops and used the flawed RPI as a crutch, leading to several goofy seedings.

CSU played really well, though. They dominated the paint against Mizzou.

I saw this tweet from Brett McMurphy...

Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) tweeted at 0:41 AM on Fri, Mar 22, 2013:
RT @ESPNStatsInfo: Only 1,339 of 8.15 million brackets in ESPN Tournament Challenge still perfect. Just 5.6 pct picked Harvard

I'm actually a little surprised that many people picked Harvard.
