But what surprises me the most is what schools those fans come from. I was sure that I would see a lot of smack talk from the La Tech crew since they are tapped and their ceiling is truly limited. I expected to see a few from Tulane, but to be honest they seem quite secure in their own program and the direction they are headed that Tulane fans don't really care. But to see the hate/fear come out of some fans of UTEP, Houston and UNT tells me one thing, the actions put in motion Thursday has already put a few programs on notice. Acadiana and Lafayette in particular is one of the most unique areas in the world, it is full of avid football fans and now that the Cajuns are winning we are gaining serious traction in our own market. Much more than I can say for some other programs currently set to join CUSA.
Don't put us in the same tongue as UTEP and UNT. One, we're back in a BCS conference. Two, your quarterback couldn't cut it here yet he transfers to U-LaLa and he's better than everybody on your roster. That alone speaks volumes about where we're at and where you're at.
Give me a reason why we should fear you and what you're doing. For starters, we're already partially done building our new stadium, yours is merely an idea sketched on paper.
The America 12 still has a BCS bid this year, therefore it's still a BCS conference. Besides, how are you going to talk smack when you have never played a down of football?
...can't tell if trolling or just stupid.
Probably both.
...and it doesn't run rampant in Houston, he just flunked out of UNT and transferred to UH. Even admitted it on GMG.com.
He's the most arrogant tool I've ever read online, but he doesn't have any reason to be arrogant.

I never said I flunked out (How in the hell would I be able transfer if I flunked out?). I transferred because my brother was sick and I wanted to be closer to home to help support my family. Don't talk about something you don't know a damn thing about.

still amazes me that Tulane says that building a new stadium would help them with attendance and they can't even get a few thousand in the Superdome

I'm pretty certain that is the visitor side in the Tulane home game pic and the ULL pic is from the bowl game against ECU...not a very fair comparison.
I'm not sure why you would say this as an on campus facility can only help them with attendance for a variety of reasons. Parking/tailgaiting, increased atmosphere, student access quickly come to mind.

To be fair to Tulane, I really do think with a new on campus stadium that after 3 or 4 years of playing in the new stadium they can double their attendance. Yep, they should double the number from 5,000 to 10,000 with that new stadium.

true, but if there fans really wanted to see the games it's not too difficult to make it to the Superdome and it's not like the dome is a dump

I am only butting in b/c I got your point. if USM had 25 of the last 29 losing seasons in football (whatever the ratio is...it's close enough) we would be suffering the same attendance drought.
I believe what Tulane is doing can only be considered good.
I have posted before that losing them as a conference member cost us a home game.
If Tulane wasn't willing to invest in the program, then the attendance issue falls on the administration. I don't know all the ins and outs of the why they haven't done this sooner. Maybe they deserved some of the previous attendance smack because of this, but they are doing what they need to now and that is what is important.

A Tulane poster was flaming ULL. Sorry, but those two pics demonstrate that no Tulane fan has any reason to try and flame ULL. Not to mention they played last year and ULL won 41-13.

RE: OT sort of. ULL investing big in athletic facilities.
Here's the thing about Tulane: We're a small private school in a city that is at a severe social disconnect with the university. We're not well-liked within our own city even though we've done some VERY nice things for the city in the past (and we're a major-league employer in the city itself). The only locals that care for us are upper-class uptown families that have grown up with Tulane as the "local boutique school". Our administration for a long time has taken an anti-athletics stance and has failed to promote the team properly.
Furthermore, the majority of our alumni/student base is NOT from Louisiana. We really don't relate to ULL, LTech, ULM, or USM for that exact reason. The fact that ULL and ULM beat us last season really doesn't bother us. As a matter of fact, most of us have already agreed with you that "Tulane football sucks". We're waiting for our university to start caring - and when that happens you'll see Tulane kids be a little more vocal.
Of course we have attendance problems. Anyone that can add all of the underlying factors up would KNOW that we were going to have issues pulling people into the Superdome.
The pessimist in me would say "just shut the football team down and become an academic school that is building a good basketball product".

So it would be fair to take a snapshot of 500 - 1K USM fans at the Liberty bowl for a MEM home game and compare that to taking 15k+ to the actual Liberty bowl? Okay, if you say so.....

Once again, you are missing the point. Tulane is playing before 3-5 thousand fans and losing. ULL is winning and taking 40,000 to bowl games. That is the story those pics tell.

If there is one thing we have in common is this! Just like MEM hired a new AD that is pro football, I believe our new AD will do what he can to remedy this.
Somebody at your school must finally be thinking along the same lines to make an on-campus stadium a reality.
To the rest of your post....thanks for the info and was pretty much what I thought was going on.

Well, losing to ULL or ULM doesn't bother me anymore than losing to the rest of our schedule. Heck ULM beat us worse last year than LSU EVER has in my lifetime. We were simply non-competitive for 3 or 4 games last year. It has nothing to do with "relating to them"...we can relate to them. Win some football games and we relate to the city. We related to USM fine when we played them every year and were competitive once in a while.

This is the south. We play football. We have no chance of "building a good basketball product" without football. None.
We lose in football because of our policies.
