They wouldn't overload the east with Michigan St if other ACC teams were on the horizon.

That's reading into it too much. This is their alignment for 14 teams. If they add more they'll change it.

They were happy at 10...and 11...and 12, too.

Definitely reading into it too much. Raiding the ACC for two schools to put in the Eastern division would allow Michigan State, Purdue, and Indiana all go west to make the conference very balanced.

It is nice to see that the Big Ten is going with the geographic split. The conference at 14 is temporary anyway but seeing that their mentality is now about geography is a very good sign for future tidings.

If expansion wasn't on the horizon then I really don't think the West schools would be cool with this.

Can it be assumed that the divisions are geographical due to Maryland? The B1G is already give them a sh@t on of money for travel.

Post expansion, every conference has stated that they are happy with the number they are at...until they expand again. You're overanalyzing, but even if they outright stated that, it would really mean nothing in the long run.

Obviously they're setting up the divisions this way because they want to make it possible for Purdue and Indiana to meet in the Big Ten championship game every year. 03-lmfao

I must say those divisions look far cleaner than the old zipper they had. But that East looks brutal w/ Nebraska and Wisky anchoring the West.

This makes future expansion much much easier. Move Purdue east if Big 12 is raided. Move Indiana west is ACC is raided.

Neither NU or RU paid 20-50 million in exit fees either.

They are calling it a travel subsidy, but it isn't. It is a get out of jail card.

We at Rutgers are thinking, Woo-Fing-Who! We,re out of the BE!
Chis Christie is a UDel grad. It's not a state university, it's a land grant school.

On that point the feeling is mutual @ West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse & Louisville...lol.

The point is the B1G on that very well could have opened Pandora Box...

I actually like those divisions - especially with Purdue in the West. That time zone based alignment makes all the sense in the world, IMHO and is 10,000 times better than the ridiculously bush league sounding Leaders and Legends divisions.

I think Michigan state should be in the west with IU and Purdue in the east, much more balanced football wise. Of course, you have to make the MSU/UM game permanent rival so it happens every year. Not sure why MSU wouldn't demand being in the west to avoid UM and OSU as divisional foes either.

I think the B1G would have also assisted Rutgers as needed... Are these two schools joining initially with full monetary shares? If they are that would be a Pandora's box for Nebraska...

With Indiana beginning to push their way into being a mid tier Big Ten program instead of a perennial bottom dweller, the Michigan State/Indiana basketball rivalry is beginning to have some meaning in the football realm too. MSU's first priority is protecting the Michigan rivalry so they will do everything they can to stay with them in the East. If they can get Indiana in the East with them too then all the better for them.

I find it interesting that Illinois and Indiana supposedly have a rivalry yet as Institutions, Illinois and Purdue have much more in common. If Indiana gets to go East then kiss that over rated rivalry gone because OSU will fight to maintain Illinois as their cross rival.

Does this mean that Maryland is technically going to be in the B1G East?
