Academic Performance Tournament--Memphis in Final Four
Stolen from the the Tigers board. Fun stuff to look at.
Based on each team's Ncaa academic progress rate, the final four in the Academic Performance Tournament are:
Belmont, Butler, Kansas, and Memphis.
Belmont beats Memphis, Kansas beats Butler, and Belmont beats out Kansas for the NC.

Pastner and his staff have done a great job academically with his teams. We have a graduating senior (a non-starter) with an engineering degree, and Tarik Black, a junior, getting his degree 1 year early. All our seniors are getting degrees.
So much for the thugs label and with the 7th highest assists in Div 1, so much for non-coached streetball.

Especially with this academic performance, how anyone can be down on Pastner is beyond me.
He's always handled himself in exemplary manner on & off the court & he wins games.
One of my favorite coaches.

I just saw a comment on the Memphis board by a fan that said if we don't win a game or two in the NCAA tourney, the entire year is a failure.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion regardless of how looney it may be.

That's a word that has differing definitions on that board.
We need to win at least a game in the tournament to rid ourselves of a perception, but 30 wins and a top 4 APR in the tournament is a weird definition of failure.
Two teams from TN made the final 4 based on academic progress, which is probably 2 more than the general public would guess based on general public educational statistics.

I understand the merit of this to some degree. I believe this is your year to surprise. I am taking you guys deep in my pool. (not trying to jinx, I promise)
IMO, if I was a MEM fan, I would only be happy to have Pastner develop into the coach he has become.

Pastner has definitely turned the corner in his maturation of the coaching job. I would also love to finally see a win in the NCAA tournament, but I'm not about to replace him.
