You shouldn't be surprised. Did you really think the Colts would go into the season with only Luck and Harnish on the roster?
A GM would be fired over that.

Harnish will grow old on the practice squad-if he is even retained. What a waste--he will never get to show anything. Better he gets cut and picked up by a team that really needs him.

Hasselbeck is old and will not be there forever, he may not even make it through this season. This could also be good for Harnish to have a veteran QB on the team to help him out. It's not the end of the world for Harnish.

The Redskins had RGIII and Cousins last year.

RE: Colts hasselback
No offense to Harnish, but he isn't wowing anyone like Kurt Cousins did. Cousins started the season as the number 3. If Harnish is going to make it in the NFL, he will need time to polish his skills. Getting tossed out there too fast could do more hard than good. I would love to see him as the number two or a starter somewhere, but only when he is ready.

RE: Colts hasselback
He could still beat out Hasselbeck for #2. But they needed to have an experienced QB on the roster, I mean Harnish was the last pick of the entire draft, you wouldn't have that guy as your only backup. No surprise.

I actually consider this a blessing in disguise, Harnish and Luck both benefit from having a seasoned veteran on the team. Perhaps by the end of camp Harnish will be #2 who knows? They obviously like Harnish otherwise they wouldn't have made the investment in him. Yes he's not getting paid the big money, but he is getting paid nonetheless.

Exactly, they don't expect every QB to be ready to play from day 1, especially a 7th rounder. This will benefit both young QBs with the Colts. Who knows, that will maybe benefit Harnish getting a #2 QB job with the Colts or someone else in the future.

You really don't have a clue how most QB's develop in the NFL. There is so much to learn.

The RGIII's & Andrew Luck's are the exceptions to the rule.

CH is very happy in the situation he's in and the Colt's are one of the most successful and classiest organizations in the NFL.

And I suspect they'll know how to use him....and they put talent around their QBs too.

And if doesn't get a chance with the Colts, there are so many teams running the read option these days, he will have a market somewhere as a backup.

The Redskins had RGIII and Cousins last year.

And Rex Grossman, no? People like to bash him, but he was a mediocre NFL starter. They didn't go in with nothing behind RG3.

If someone as crazy inconsistant as Grossman is STILL in the NFL...that gives me hope for Chandler to have a chance somewhere.
Did I read somewhere that a player can only be on the practice squad for 2 seasons then they have to do something with them? I could be wrong. NFL is loaded with so many odd rules...

And you are the expert on how nfl qbs are developed. Too bad he was drafted by the colts. As Mr. irrelevant this was another bad joke played on NIU. He would have been better off being a free agent.
