Blaudschun: Big East (us) working with Dan Beebe
http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=5911#more-5911
Setting up the conference and such.
According to sources familiar with the process, the Catholic 7 group has made the first move in that direction by hiring former Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe to help facilitate that process. Although Beebe, who now runs a crisis management/consulting firm based in Dallas, is not regarded as a candidate for a permanent position as a commissioner, he is expected to set up the frame work for the new Big East when it does open its doors for business, most likely in New York City.

I'm not a big fan of getting a hired gun right now. I thought Beebe was a football guy, and I may be mistaken but didn't he head the Big-12 when they tried to kill the Big East? This would be like installing a snake to make decisions for us. I'd rather find a C-7+5 lifer who has a long term stake in the Big East success. Dan Gavitt is the obvious choice, but any decent BE alum would be more appealing. Plus "interim" positions often turn permanent.... ask Bud Selig...

Jersey Guy said he wasn't bring brought in as a commissioner, just as a consultant of some sort for setting up conference operations. Probably the nuts-and-bolts type stuff, rather than the big strategic issues.
Although I'd say he did pretty well on the big strategic issues--Big 12 is still there, after all.
