It's a battle that's been lost, more than once I believe. Other schools have fought against it.

There was some resistance to Memphis State University becoming the University of Memphis back in 1994, but I think the vast majority of alumni are glad that the name was changed. Both Middle Tennessee and Charlotte should become the University of ...., but I know that is easier said than done.

Makes you wonder what if Lane Rawlins had worked the TBOR just as hard for an on-campus stadium during that period as he did for the name change.

His current employer, UNT has both.

We had MTU locked down when Memphis changed their name, but we turned it down, waiting for UMT.

Don't know if it'll ever happen. Too many legislators wearing that UT arnge.

Austin Peay, TSU, and TN Tech fighting it as well.

It's not like a name change is going to take students away from those other schools. And if they don't like their names as is, they should be free to change it as well. University of Austin Peay is fine with me.
