Yes, I was on the wrong side of the Walter twins on the list. But Stewart makes at least two downgrades, as Jeremy Jones was also once upon a time a 3-star.
So the guy with offers from MissSt, Texas Tech, Indiana, Iowa St., Duke, and others (Stewart) was dropped from 3-star to 2-star? This a couple weeks after they dropped Rice's 3-star QB commit (Jones) to 2-stars? Rivals really must think no one with significant talent would commit to Rice. I can only think of one example where a Rice commit was raised from 2-stars to 3-stars after committing to Rice, Driphus Jackson, and that was after he won a competition and Moondog heavily labored to have the Rivals staff re-evaluate him.
I'm *this close* to dropping my subscription. Jefferson doesn't really add much that you can't read elsewhere, certainly a lot less than Moondog provided. Not the most active of forums either, especially since now we get more "inside information" here than at Rivals.
Stewart, Jones, and White are all 3-stars at 247sports. Stewart and White are both 3-stars at Scout. Stewart and Jones are 3-stars at ESPN (White not rated).
Sorry but the Rivals guys are clueless...the only guy that was worth reading was Mooney...the new guy is awful. I cancelled with Rivals and opted for free reading..
I don't understand why some folks are so hard on the new Rivals guy. Sure we loved moondog, but the last year he was there the info outside of commits was few and far between. I left when there was only a few things put out per month, just recently went back to Rivals to give the new guy a shot and I have to say, honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised.
There is a staff there now, with him and two interns. They cover a lot more than just recruiting. I am still catching up on some of the stuff from before I signed up.
I just don't know why some are so hard on him and to call him awful. Is there some history with him I'm unaware of?
Based on what I've seen the week or so I've been back I would have to disagree. I've been pleased. But that's just my opinion.

Mooney fought to get guys upgraded. The way things look, the new guy from Rivals is becoming successful at getting them downgraded. Stewart a 2star is nuts....look at his highlights then go see other local running backs in his class and no comparison.

I predict Austin or Stewart get on the field this year as running backs/slot receivers. We can use the help in both areas.

Rice has an offer out to play both baseball and football to Whitehouse, TX QB/FS/pitcher/short stop Pat Mahomes, son of the former MLB pitcher of the same name.
Some of his FB highlights are reminiscent of Manziel:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/886649/highlights/34006377
He's got a FB offer from Texas Tech and some other pretty good baseball offers. He's probably a bit of a long shot for Rice but who knows. The staff is evaluating players for other QB offers for the 2014 class.
Have there been many two sport QB's in the spread era? pat white at WVU, but he was clearly run first.
I just don't know if it is practical to miss spring football and play QB. ditto for pitching and playing safety, due to injury risk.
I think safety/DH is a potentially a great combination.
Had to dig up this old thread after reading this article, which mentions that the only schools which offered Mahomes were Texas Tech, Houston, and Rice. Nice to see that we at least identified the talent and made an offer back in 2013.

So Rice was one of the few schools to offer Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and RGIII (as a QB, I think I read that many schools offered him as a safety). And was in the final 3 for Andrew Luck. But didn't get any of them. Ouch!

At some point, we have to land one of these guys right? Admittedly, the odds seem never in our favor.

Mayfield walked on at TTU rather than take a scholarship from us.

Exactly, that was my thought as well. Unfortunately at this point it's not good enough for us to be one of the few teams to offer, we essentially would have to be the only team to offer.

Rice signed QB Nate German the same recruiting year as Mayfield. Tyler Stehling signed the year before and Driphus Jackson the year before that. So on paper, Rice had a pretty good roster of QB's that, on paper, would have been ahead of Mayfield. And who knows whether Rice's offer was outstanding through signing day, or whether Rice retracted it at some point after German committed.

Which makes me think of my earlier post in the 2019 recruiting thread where I wondered whether Rice would have any interest Martin Butcher, the QB who broke basically all of Peyton Manning's school records at Isidore Newman in New Orleans. I guess he has offers from UAB, VMI, and Western Illinois, but perhaps Rice could compete with those schools (if Coach Bloomgren was interested).

I would endorse offering him if we didn't already have a QB commit in our class (who was named the Division 1 Ohio POY http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/ne...f-the-year )...

I should note that I'm not a football scout or former player. I have no idea if he has enough tools or skill for the next level. I'm just impressed by anyone who soundly trounces Peyton Manning's numbers.
I don't mind having 2 QBs in a class (in the abstract). Not every year, but if the staff felt like both guys had lots of potential. Most important position on the field, better to have too much competition than too little.

Yup. Flipped unexpectedly. There’s discussion in the 2018 thread.
