RE: WNIT not exactly bad consolation
The size of the fan base is the one area that UT outdistances most potential opponents. That fan base has not helped the team at Cleveland for the past five years nor has it helped get an at-large NCAA bid but the WNIT is the ONE PLACE where the superior fan base plays a direct roll in the team's success because it allows the Administration to out bid most competitors for the extremely important home court advantage because they are confident that the revenue to cover the costs will follow. Syracuse had several home games early in the 2011 WNIT (that included eliminating our nemesis EMU) that were attended by about 200-300 fans each so Syracuse was unwilling to outbid UT when the bracket had them facing one another. In fact we got them here 2 years in a row in the WNIT.

Thus the WNIT provides that rare opportunity to FORCE these BIG name teams to play UT at Savage to their disadvantage. They do the one-and-done at Savage and I love it. That alone is worth the effort. In a one month period during the 2011 WNIT run we had more "name" schools (Auburn, Alabama, Syracuse, Southern Cal) play in Savage than probably the preceding 5-10 years plus as a bonus we got to see Elena Della Donn in person----what's there not to like?

The only thing I disagree with Hack about is that, if by some miracle UT did get an NCAA bid, IMO they would probably get a 12 or 13 seed at worst because there are more than a dozen of Automatic Bid teams who would likely be seeded below UT even if UT was the last team in.

True enough, but you can walk across campus and see a dozen pretty girls, yet you'll walk the soles off of many a pair of shoes before you find one who can play basketball like Della Donn.
