1973 Friars - 40 Year Anniversary...
Good article on the 73 Friars on Grantland. 40th anniversary. Behind the back half-court passes, winning with flair, ton of personality.

Definitely check out the video half way down. At 18 seconds is the halfcourt behind the back pass by Ernie D to Stacom. And this was in the Final Four game!

They should have won it all that year.

The photo at the top of the article shows Ernie and Marvin in front of the State House. The trees behind them are now enormous. From that view today, the dome wouldn't be visible. Before the city rebuilt downtown, we would park on gameday on the street near the photo. Back then, around 8 lanes of rusty train track overpasses (now underground) crossed Francis Street, and we'd have to walk underneath. Herds of us fans would endure stale urine smells, pigeons, and snowmelt. Wow, Providence as a city has come a long way.

Ernie D was the best point guard I've ever seen on the college level. That was a great team but also an exciting team that was fun to watch.
