Chicago Tribune Says Creighton Is #10...!
According to the linked article, congrats to Creighton on joining us in the Big East. Looking forward to getting up to 12 teams too.
Chicago Tribune Says Creighton Is #10
"Meanwhile, Creighton indeed will be the 10th team in the league, a source told the Tribune. There had been some debate on the identity of any additions after Xavier and Butler, but the new Big East has settled on Creighton for certain, barring unexpected complications."

Can I re-congratulate the Bluejays on their invite to the Big East?

I think we've been congratulated a few times the last couple weeks, I'll wait until something is "official."

great point about how Creighton is the 3rd Nebraska school to make a big shift in their conference-
Nebraska-Omaha moving up to the Summit from D2 and of course Nebraska going to the Big Ten

Just a thought about the timing- I wonder if the C7 did this to kind of upstage the talk about the Big East Final on Saturday with Syracuse and Louisville. Especially with Butler still in play with the A10 tourney....
Only thing though that could hurt the C7- if Butler wins tomorrow and then gets routed by VCU again. Not talking pro-VCU here at all- but that wouldn't look good- it being 2nd time in 3 weeks that happens.

OR St. Louis beats BOTH Butler and VCU.

good point.... Esp. if they do it in the fashion they did it to both of them the last time they played.
Got to think Aresco is furious having this news released tonight.

Maybe you can take 10 seconds out of your day to formally congratulate Creighton, Xavier and Butler fans. Then you can resume your regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.

Whether it's football or not, I would hope there would be divisions. With 12 teams, there won't be a double round robin format; they're not going to play a 22 game schedule. So, the most sensible way to divide up the games is by using divisions.
Or they could do the most sensible thing of all and simply stay at 10. I know . . . Fox will have a say in that, so it will be 12. I have to think that if Fox is the driving force to get to 12, VCU will get a lot of consideration.

We didn't do divisions when we had 8, 12, 14 or 16. We're not going to do divisions now. Word is the presidents are very much AGAINST them.
Oh and we are going to 12, it's just a matter of time. VCU is not getting much consideration by most reports. They don't fit institutionally.

I've read the same stuff that you've read, but I've never seen a president interviewed or go on record as being opposed to divisions. Until the final decision is made, I'll wait and see.
The situation in the old Big East was completely different. The old Big East did do divisions in the 1990's, so they're definitely willing to consider it. When the numbers got so big and unwieldy in the expanded Big East, the only way to do divisions was to not play some teams in a given year. That was the problem. They didn't want to leave anyone off their schedule.'
Divisions are very important for cost efficiency. Travel is much more expensive when you're making extra trips to locations 2 or 3 times as distant or more as the ones closer by. Money talks and that will force them to consider divisions.
I expect that they will go to 12 because that's what Fox wants. But the early reports about the split had the C7 as being happy with a 10 team league. So, if this league is partially being designed to keep Fox happy and they are happy with the institutional fit of 11 members, I don't think it will be a tough sell to add VCU. Not saying they will, but VCU is just too strong a program at this point in a good market with good travel benefits for the East Coast members for them not to be considered before the final decisions are made.
