Actually, I did want Metro to be the alternative in the worst-case scenario of losing the Big East name. That seemed to be a popular opinion at the time, as evidenced by the immediate groundswell in support for it.

In fact, I wanted the Metro name years ago when I dreamed of a breakaway conference or rebranded C-USA in the wake of the first raid.

You wanted to the keep the BE name over the metro. correct?

IMO we need something new and something so simliar to the BIG5 that we fit right in with the RECRUITS OF TODAYS GENERATION. I imagine we will not sign many athletes over the age of 40 who remember the "glory" days of the Metro.

I prefer the name "Metro Conference" to the name "Big East" personally.

But we were joining an existing brand so there was no need to clamor for a different name. You aren't signing athletes based on the name of the league, but the quality of your program and your opponents in the conference. We could call the conference the Wimpy Conference, but if we are winning basketball and football championships with league teams, recruits will come.

I brought up metrosexual because some of you want to name the league a shortened version of Metrosexual!

If you were proposing any name that in its shortened version would be deragtory towards our new conference I would point that out as well.

Same reason most people avoid names such as Dick, Gaylord, etc. for their kids. Why open yourself to a barrage of insults?

Why would we want to name ourselves something that will make young adults laugh and mock us everytime they hear it? Thats a surefire way to a respectable conference name.

We have an uphill battle ahead of us with recruits, media and fans, the name should help us not hinder us, thats the bottom line.

Metro 3.0.....after Memphis, Cincy, Tulane and USM left...the Metro invited other clubs to come into the league to replace the departed schools. THAT inception of the Metro was 2.0.
The CURRENT inception of the Metro would be stronger than the Metro 2.0...and possible the Metro 1.0. (Considering that the Metro 1.0 was a slugfest between Memphis and Louisville running the conference...and the Metro 3.0 could have 4-5 teams vying for conference supremacy basketball wise right off the bat)
