Bammerism is a mental illness. We need to help these people.

RE: Scarbinsky talks with Nored.
I think this is what Scarbinsky wanted... He got all of you talking about a kid who is not even playing basketball right now. The "not-basketball enough" statement was in comparison to Butler. However, Butler's recent success can be tied directly to Nored's time at Butler. Interestingly, Butler has 11 NCAA appearances vs. UAB's 14. Prior to him starting school, that number becomes 7 for Butler vs. 13 for UAB. Take it one step further with NIT and we have 8 for Butler vs. 11 for UAB overall and 8 for Butler vs. 9 for UAB before 2008. Overall, Butler's recent success is the only indication that they are a good basketball school. Yes Basketball is king at Butler but I would say the same is true at UAB. We have just as much a winning tradition as Butler, IMO.

The comment about wanting to go to UAT is not surprising to me... That would be like a kid that grew up a UAB fan and did not receive an offer from us and went to Butler.

You also have to remember the kid is saying this after having spent four incredible years at Butler. It is his school now, in the same way that UAB is mine. It no longer matters to him where he came from or what he considered four years ago (which might as well be a lifetime to a college kid). I suspect his experiences up there may have skewed his memory about what was important at the time.

I wish we'd had the last four years that Butler has had. They hit the damn jackpot with their coach during that time frame, and we didn't. But it's not "more basketball." At the same time, I'd wonder about a kid who didn't say that about his own school when asked to compare it to a school he didn't attend and could care less about.

I think we are judging his comments. I don't see anyone judging him as a person.

I take offense at a Birmingham kid saying UAB isn't "basketball enough" for him while saying he would have gone to Bammer. He could have been classy and said he didn't pick UAB because he liked Butler better or because it was a better fit for him or he felt more comfortable with the coaches there or something like that. But he chose to say we aren't "basketball enough" which is taken by many of us as a slap at our program.

Is it worthy of a major outcry? No. What he says is of little importance. I find it strange how you aren't offended by his comment, but again, it doesn't really matter much what he says. But what he said was insensitive to the fans of UAB, the major university right over the hill from his hometown.

He has the right to be insensitive to us. And we have the right to not like it and point it out.

He said he got an offer from UAB but not UAT. He said he would probably have gone to UAT because two of his AAU teammates/friends got UAT scholarships. He chose wku over UAB. His senior year of high school wku was fcs in football and went to the sweet 16 in basketball. He switched to butler after wku's head coach left for the South Carolina job

It's only insensitive to fans who are jealous of the school down the road and look for every reason in the world to get offended by something. I was not offended by his comments.

RE: Scarbinsky talks with Nored.
Right. Everything is being taken out of context right now. He didn't say he wanted to go to Bama because basketball was #1 there. He said he wanted to go to a school where basketball was #1. This could have been decided after he knew Bama wasn't going to give him an offer.

And no, I don't believe saying UAB isn't basketball enough is a slap at the program. How many sellouts did UAB have this year? How about in the last five years? How many tournament appearances does UAB have in the last decade? In recent years, the only national attention UAB has really received is when Bilas and Vitale had their blowup on national television.

He chose WKU first, and then Butler, over UAB because he perceived them as more prestigious basketball schools. He has a right to his opinion, and there are reasons that he has his opinion. He didn't say UAB has crap facilities, crap support, crap coaches, crap fans, etc. He said UAB wasn't basketball enough. My goodness people here read anything about Bama and start foaming at the mouth like a bunch of rabid animals.

He went to 2 national championships and was a high school head coach right out of college.

Excuse Mr. Nored if he doesn't give a damn what you think about his knowledge of "real" basketball.

The next questions

Does AAU buddy-dom trump "basketball enough" & football fan-dome?

What if his AAU buddies signed with UAB? Would his AAU-buddy-dom allow him to overcome UAB's "not basketball enough"?

I have my doubts a UAB scholarship was offered. Probably should have been, but I think this would have been the same year Davis was so short of new scholarships for his moronic schemes that he screwed Reggie Huffman out of his to put that cokehead philosophy major from Indiana into school and made Cameron Moore walk on.

Nored would have sat behind AJ at UAB and behind Steele at UAT.

RE: Scarbinsky talks with Nored.
We've got Blazer fans defending UAB's honor. We've got Blazer fans saying UAB wasn't dishonored. We've got Blazer fans annoyed with Nored. We've got Blazer fans defending Nored from Blazer fans. We've got Blazer fans saying Nored was right to say we aren't basketball enough, although I'm not sure Butler was much better at the time Nored went there. We've got Blazer fans correctly pointing out that Nored wasn't a great player, just a good one. Praise, bash, praise, bash.

My God, we've become like Memphis fans.

We're basketball enough to beat you Nored! Congrats on a nice career at Butler, but I don't care.
