I believe that Muggsy Boggs would be good only from the standpoint that he played professionally in NC. Just like Minter, but Boggs isn't as experienced as Minter was coaching.

I believe this search may take longer just waiting for teams seasons to end and seeing what coaches will be let go or leave their schools. We may be waiting awhile before this decision. I think it will still be an assistant from a big program, hopefully a UNC, Duke, NCSU so they have ties here.

Well I can tell you that it won't be one of the assistants from Duke or Carolina unless you take a Director of Ops (which makes no sense). The reason? Those guys are in-line for bigger jobs if they want those. Can you name an assistant in the last 20 years from either one of the schools that took a job at a school simliar to CU (and CAA or A10 schools do not count)? I would be surprised if its anyone currently on NC States staff.

You are looking for an assistant away from those schools and probably out of the Top 25 nationally. Thats just my take.

Any chance on one of the assistants taking the head job? I think Roller will go out and get someone before anyone gets promoted.

I agree about the search taking long. Which is unfortunate because the longer we wait the more uncertainty it leaves are returning players. This was one of the reasons I want to let Robbie Laing contract play out. Is that we have a young team that was going to get better. But now with instability in the program and a lot of them being still very young this is concerning. Someone in the other blogs talked about getting worse before it gets better I agree with that statement. Now I not saying I don't understand why Coach Laing lost his job it was simple fact that he was not getting it done in tournament play. If you want to win championships unless the system changes (which it won't) you have got to to play well in tournaments. I am for keeping any of the three assistants I think did a great job as far as bringing in the talent that we needed. I think Coach Laing weakness was in game decisions and developing team chemistry. So I am ok with keeping some of the assistants especially if we get a head coach with no college experience (Bouges). But again I think more players will jump ship. But if they don't then maybe it was a sign that they were not happy with the Coach Laing. We will see but not for a while.

On HoopDirt.com Seth Greenberg is the name that has emerged for the Longwood job. If he would actually consider Longwood, why can't Campbell go after him? He has had success in difficult jobs (USF/Va Tech), is familiar with the area, and has tons of experience. He's also only had a losing record four times in 22 years as a head coach. Two of those were in his first year on the job at Long Beach and USF and the other two were at Va Tech, but were still close to winning seasons - 14-16 and 15-16. I think he'd be an outstanding choice.

As far as players leaving, Roller shouldn't give them a release until a new coach is hired. The new coach needs a chance to talk to them all and for the players to see what he'll have to offer. If some leave, that's the price of change unfortunately.

If Collins is even being considered than good for CU for shelling out the $$$$. Collins is making close to $750 k or more per year at Duke. I am still going to say its a long shot.

I hope Trey stays but if he wants to transfer then let him go. The most important thing right now is to find the right coach to lead our program in the future regardless of what the hire may mean to our current roster. I would welcome some short term pains to get the right coach to lead our program and see sustained success down the road. I agree with a comment OrangeCamel made in this thread or another that if players want to transfer or go pro overseas they are not the players we want in our program. If it is true that Laing and some others have said about lack of effort and focus of some of the players in games then we don't want those players either. I want to see the right coach for CU and players that want to be here and give 100% all of the time. The school needs to take as much time as needed to find the right fit..............I will now step off of my soapbox.

If we get Collins that is huge. But 750k we are not spending that type of money. But who knows maybe he will be ok with taking less, if it means a head coaching job? Anyway I agree I don't there some players I do not want to transfer but if they do there is nothing we can do about it.

I agree with Statman, we get Collins I will be beyond shocked. And since it came from 99.9 I doubt it even more. I think Collins could go get a much higher profile gig, as much as I like us!

Greenberg would be interesting, he's on record as being a huge fan of Trey.

Northwestern fired Carmody today and Collins is the front runner. Don't see Campbell in the mix over a Big Ten job (even a bad one).

I think they were referring to Brad Greenberg from Radford University. But if it was Seth Greenberg then you should probably check yourself and your reasoning. People miss on recruits all the time that's part of the game of recruiting. Something you can't deny is that Seth Greenberg is a 2 time ACC Coach of the Year. If you want to turn in your tickets in that situation then I'm sure we could fill them because if we had him we would sell seats.

The Curry brothers is your reasoning? Greenberg isn't the only one who passed them up. Sure, he missed on those two, but every coach at every school has missed on talent. How does an Isaiah Canaan end up at Murray State? How does Mike Muscala end up at Bucknell? You can go on and on with those kind of misses. Seth Curry ended up at Liberty? You don't think Laing could've had a shot if Liberty did? He didn't sign a Curry kid either.

Laing was 113-182 as a head coach at Campbell, with a pathetic record in February/March. If ten years of that wasn't enough, I don't know what to tell you. He has a .380 winning percentage. He had ONE winning season in ten years. And you would take that over a proven winner?

Greenberg on the other hand has a 378-283 record as a head coach at three different schools. He had a winning record at South Florida and Virginia Tech. At USF he had one losing record, his first year. Stan Heath has had a winning record only two out of the six years he has been the head guy since Greenberg left. He has the best winning percentage of all time at USF. That's not an easy job, by the way.

At Virginia Tech he had only two losing seasons. That's another very difficult job.

So, who do you think is a better realistic candidate than Greenberg? He apparently has made it clear that he very much wants to coach again and is willing to go to the mid-major level. I'll gladly take a guy who has 22 years of head coaching experience at three different schools, with a lifetime winning record. It's a resume that's better than anything else to hit the Creek in basketball. Coach K isn't walking through that door.

No, I'm referring to Seth Greenberg. He's rumored to be in the mix at Longwood and wants to coach again. I think Campbell would be crazy not to try if he does want to coach again.

The individual who is the next head coach at CU is a #2 assistant at a mid-level BCS program (not named Duke, Carolina or NC State) or another like position (i.e. #1 assistant at a successful mid-major). If they go with a someone who has head coaching experience, it will be someone from a mid-major level that has been fired or let go.

It certainly sounds like Allison has experience in recruiting to fit the specific mold of a University (playing at Liberty, recruiting at VMI).

Throw him in the mix with any other assistants applying from successful private mid-majors and make a decision.
