EMU scores 17 points in second half and NIU still loses.

I wonder how many of these guys will be back or push out?

The better question is how many of them do we even want back

We just arent good enough to let clock drain out and not run any kind of offense, I kind of hoped previous games taught us that.

RE: Round 1 - NIU @ EMU game thread
Nader is gone. Coach says all the guys are coming back, next year. He also said all the guys are playing for name on front of jersey not the back. I felt he was talking about Nader. They have 2 schollys besides Highsmith and Pete. Team must get stronger. They will be a better offensive team, next year. He said there is two guys they have been recruiting all year. Bottom line is they lost again, but I believe the guys will go into off-season feeling better about themselves. Confidence is the key for most athletes and a little goes along way. Monty also said Pete has been working hard and we must win in year 3. They lost 11 games by 10 or less. They must win those games next year!

So other than losing our best player, everyone is coming back.

In all reality, no improvement from the beginning of the season to the end. The worst baketball season in NIU history.

I really want to say I saw improvement this year but in all honesty I didn't. And the fact that most of this team is coming back isn't a reason for celebration.

Highsmith is a big reason for optimism. Real shame about Nader but whats the saying about a zebra cant change his stripes or something like that. He wasnt going to change.

Nobodys celebrating. Most people on this board should be happy Nader is gone. Many complained that he was a ball hog and never passed. I got the impresstion, Monty was ready too see him go. With our best player Nader, we lost to EMU twice by 17 and 12 pts. and 18 and 8 turnovers. Today, we lost by 1pt and had 5 turnovers and had our highest point total. I personally wish Nader was staying, but he is a turnover machine and aparently isnt putting team first.

Nader was by far our best and most talented player but he has that unfortunate position it seems like so many NIU players have had the past decade, he is a dreaded tweener, something between a guard and a forward, but really not able to be efficient at either one.

I'm confused. Which one of the following 13 does not have a scholly: Baker, Balls, Bolin, Bowie, Christian, Cravetta, Davis, Gray, Gray, Mader, Nader, Nixon, and Rakovic. I thought I read Cravetta got Ford's scholly.
With Nader, Springs and Nixon leaving that leaves two openings with Highsmith coming in next year, but I don't know who currently does not have one to make 13.

So we replace/kick off the team a "ball hog" (because he can score) with another "ball hog" coming in? I have a feeling Highsmith won't be much different than Nader in regards to the shots he takes. This program will never improve with losing players like this. Sad. I pray MM brings in a JUCO player with Naders scholly.

302 in attendance in Ypsilanti for a playoff game? That is pathetic.

We're not the only MAC school with serious attendance problems.

RE: Round 1 - NIU @ EMU game thread
The conversation about Nader reminds me of the same conversation being brought up about Silas two years ago. The guy was considered a ballhog but by far the most talented player on the team. Honestly, who would you rather have shoot on this team?? I'm not defending Nader's attitude just making a point.

Huskiepride12, Highsmith is anything but a ball hog. He gets many assists and points every game. I had no problem with how many shots Nader would take. The problem was he would usually only make around 3 of 12 and didnt play defense. I also never had a problem with Silas. This team could use a guy like Silas, who scored 17-20 something every nite.

7 for 18 from the free throw line. If NIU shoots 50% from the line, they win. I have never seen a high school team shoot under 50% from the line. Playing and coaching hard may keep you in the game but you need to up coach and play smart to win with this talent.

They didnt need anything special to win, they just needed to make a couple free-throws. Bowie killed this team from the line this year.

RE: Round 1 - NIU @ EMU game thread
I'm glad to put ten feet of dirt on this season. Early on, it seemed like NIU was playing some decent teams tough and might parlay that into a decent MAC season....but they just never got any kind of offense going. Hopefully there's some offensive growth next year.

It'll be interesting to see who comes back.
