ECU and Tulsa both play the second day which could be good or bad. We did play each other earlier in the year with ECU winning. I will say this though, Memphis is great but the Pirates were in both games and we could have won here arguably if we had of been healthy. We are still missing some guys from that same match up in Greenville BUT we have played that line up a little more now and are better with it.... this one could be interesting.

I expect us to lose to Marshall. Either way both teams are out next vs Memphis. Dismal season that was JUST good enough not to fire Conroy.

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
The Knights chose to take a Bye through this year's Tourney.

ECU was unfortunate to get the host in the Quarters.. Tulsa may end up taking out Memphis, giving the league two Tourney Spots once again.

On the other side, a UTEP/Southern Miss Semi could be a classic.

Looking forward to watching.

Tulsa - ECU should a great game. Tulsa is as healthy as we've been in awhile. Tulsa has 55% of it's scoring by freshmen & is very inconsistent. ECU is a very good team. I will be happy if we are able to beat ECU.

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
Tulsa would be doing real good to beat ECU this year in the Tourny. Beat Memphis I don't think so.

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
Anyone's tourney.

Example:
Assuming the higher seeds advance, Memphis would be challenged by Marshall's athelticism, then face Tulsa, and then UTEP/S Miss. Memphis would have to play their last 2 games in slow-paced grinders.

If Marshall takes out Memphis, it would certainly open things up for them or ECU.

IMO, S.Miss would have the easiest path if someone takes Memphis out (assuming they face UTEP while in a road shooting slump).

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
Houston enters on a 3 game win streak with 6 good performances in the last 7 games:

Blowout wins over UTEP, Marshall and Rice at home
Gutty win despite big foul trouble at Tulane
Took Tulsa to 3 OTs on the road before falling
Played Memphis much tougher than anyone expected at Memphis

The only poor performance of the last seven came at UTEP, but that was the 3rd game of a 3-game road trip.

We get Rice in the opening round. Rice would love to spoil our season (again) and they always play us tough.

Should we get past them, we'll have a 4-game win streak vs. UTEP on Thursday. Coach Dickey and Coach Floyd are very familiar with each other. We played the Miners in the conference tourney last year, and UTEP won in overtime. I'm sure Southern Miss will be pulling for us this year. It is unclear to me how Floyd's interview with USC will affect the Miners.

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
To me, it doesn't matter if teams want to play a slow grind it out game.
DJ Stephens went out of the last UTEP game with asthma problems.
In 8 minutes he had 5 points, and 3 rebounds.
Imagine if he had been able to play more in that game. We'd have been able to pound it inside a bit better...and we would have gotten more rebounds/putbacks than we did.
At Tulsa...we won't be that high above sea level...and he should be raring to go.
Good luck to everyone...seeing as how this is our last go-around. If March has taught us anything in the past...is that anything can happen....its why it is called MADNESS.

I'll be in Joplin MO for work Wednesday morning so I've planned to be in Tulsa for days 1 and 2 of the tournament. I'll unfortunately have to leave after that, but this will be my first attendance at any CUSA basketball event - pretty excited!

Also, are we throwing out predictions in this thread or are we starting another one for that?

Day 1 predicted winners: UAB, Houston, Tulane
Day 2: Southern Miss, UTEP, Memphis, Tulsa
Day 3: UTEP, Memphis
Day 4: Memphis

We need hometown Timmy to go down. UTEP almost beat us at home and MEM with their slow-down style. This has been a crazy year in college hoops and I expect nothing less than the same to continue. .....is going to be an interesting weekend.

RE: CUSA MENS TOURNEY THREAD
The only thing that makes me feel better about a potential rematch with UTEP is the Stephens factor. He only played 8 minutes in El Paso due to his asthma and the altitude in El Paso. He is a difference maker when he's on the court and should be defensive player of the year in CUSA.

If the regular season is any indication for our upcoming conference tournament play, I have a feeling that the noise we make will be an explosive shart.

You guys are sitting on potential tournament winning type talent but just haven't put it together. I'm not saying that it's a coaching issue, but something just isn't working with that group. I can't recall a larger discrepancy between talent and results in this conference. I'm just hoping that you guys don't get it put together for a 2 game run Wed/Thurs.

Good luck to the Herd next year. You guys are fun conference partners.
