If they cannot entice a Missouri State into joining that appears to be the best move for the SBC. I'm assuming they are looking at Idaho, and probably NMSU for football only.
Adding Ga State and App State would more than compensate for all four of the schools they lost to CUSA, as far as growing the SBC's image and brand in football. Those schools play good football year in and year out, but that is not the case with FAU, UNT, FIU and MTSU. They are hit and miss at the best, and are normally a miss.
I can't imagine Idaho is on anyone's short list except for maybe the Big Sky but that would require Idaho moving back to FCS which may be the best thing for their program. It certainly can't compete on the FBS level.
Idaho would be football only.
And when are they going to build an appropiate place to play FBS football? I dont feel sorry for Idaho because they havent even attempted to build appropriate facilities. They've had over a decade to do so.

Benson would not give names, other than the fact that Idaho and NMSU were included in the 20 or so schools that were being considered.

I meant Georgia Southern, not Georgia State in my post. Georgia State will take some time to be a competitive FBS program, but that will not be the case with Georgia Southern or App State.

I think Georgia Southern will take some time to be competitive. In the Citadel game, GSU looked like a high school team and had a gimmick offense that wont fly in the Sun Belt. App State will do fine.

We had a brand new QB that folded in the spotlight. Our other QB took over and did well the rest of the year and led us to the semi finals losing a heartbreaker at the Fargo Dome to NDSU. We also should have been leading #2 UGA at the half had it not been for a phantom chop block called at the goal line at the end of the half. We also beat CUSA darling ODU at ODU. Not at all worried about our offense, but more concerned with depth on defense. We will be fine.

For these last few seasons App State has had teams that have a lot of pro/pro potential players, and could have been tops in the lower conferences in FBS.

Fast forward to 1:07:00. Ga Southern about to take the halftime lead on UGA until the SEC refs had enough of it.

Wonderful. However, while largely supportive of Georgia Southern's candidacy for Sun Belt membership, I'm personally very skeptical of those FCS program fans that predict that their team will be up to speed immdiately. WKU,Troy, ULM, and stAte all came from a successful FCS heritage. They struggled upon upgrading. Its highly likely that you will too. Its not a SBC issue either, virtually everyone moving up struggles.
You're not playing 1 or 2 FBS games, you'll be playing 12 of them. Its about depth. Its about size. Its about speed. FBS teams, even the bad ones, have more of just about all of it than even a good FCS moveup.

Also, that QB was canned after that game and the other QB lead the way the rest of the season only losing to UGA and App state during the regular season.

If you don't line up in the I-form every play, it's a gimmick.
